Day 76

1st March 2022

Volcano Experiment

It was an early start. 😂

I was still drinking my smoothie on the sofa as Lincoln & Mila searched the cupboards for bi-carb soda and vinegar.

They were planning to make an erupting volcano.

They saw the experiment in Mila’s ‘Rainy Day Activities’ book she loaned from the library.

They didn’t bother building the volcano out of paper mache and painting it.

No. That would take too long.

They needed it to erupt, now! 😂

Here we go!
They decided to make green lava because it’s their favourite colour.

Next, it was a jet-propelled bottle car!

The bottle is full of vinegar.

Then she has to drop the tissue full of bicarb soda into the bottle.

Replace the lid (which is supposed to be a cork) the pressure builds up and shoots the cork out of the end and the bottle takes off.

Uh-Oh!

Not quite the reaction we were looking for. 😂

We learnt that we need all the correct materials, and we need a lot more bicarb!

Mila was feeling especially crafty today, because next she made ‘colourful rice’! 😂

Paint + rice = a purple blob!

Hieroglyphics

Lincoln written on the left & Mila written on the right.

In history today we learnt more about Egypt and mummies.

We researched how to write our names using Egyptian hieroglyphs, and then carved them into clay. Ancient Egyptians didn’t use vowels, and they only have 25 symbols.

The kids decided they wanted to write their names on their bedroom doors in lots of different languages.

Next, they did Japanese!

Tutankhamun’s Curse

We learnt about the curses found inside the tombs of Pharaohs and how within 6 years of opening King Tut’s tomb 10 people who were involved in the excavation were dead!

Pretty spooky.

Here’s the video we watched.

English/Math’s

After lunch, the kids made a cake (without fighting!) and we ate almost half of it while doing English and Math’s.

Today Mila was learning about the USSR and how the civil war ended with 15 countries becoming free after 69 years of communist rule.

(I LOVE their English/Arts book. It covers so much & I don’t have to worry if I’m doing enough or if I’ve covered everything. It’s so good!)

Both the kids really love looking at maps. Their geography knowledge has grown so much!

After the cake we were done for the day, and they chilled out with some TV & I looked up flights for our trip to London.

On the way home, we have a long stop over while the plane refuels etc. I was bummed out at first & then the travel agent said,

“in, Tokyo”.

ARGH!! JAPAN!!

The kids are SO excited.

They are hoping there will be a Moomin cafe! 😂
