Day 65

14th February 2022

Endless Summer

It’s been a wet summer that’s for sure but lately, we’ve practically lived at the beach.

On Saturday we headed out for a morning surf.

It was cloudy & and kinda stormy.

The water was warm.

The sun broke through the clouds and shone a patch of sun right on top of us.

The water suddenly lit up and no word of a lie, someone pointed and shouted,

“Dolphins!”

Maybe 6 dolphins came cruising towards us.

We paddled out even further. Faster & faster, then sat up on our boards.

I saw a huge fin cut the water and turn towards us. I felt a rush of fear.

“They are dolphins right?” I said nervously to Julia.

We watched the water, searching, searching. They must be close to us now.

Then, whoosh!

A mama & bub dolphin dived up out of the water and back down again, right in front of us!

A bolt of electricity shot through me. Through all of us.

It was magical.

They were so close we could have touched them.

I don’t know what happened. But something happened. I felt it.

Incredible.

Lincoln was sitting next to me on his board. His face was lit up, he looked at me and we knew without saying anything.

We knew something really special had just happened and we shared it together.

The sun breaking through. You can’t see it here but there was a water spout just minutes before I got my camera.

Um, I think I’ve become side tracked with my dolphin story. 😬

SO!

Monday. Here’s how it went down.

Liam took the kids to the beach to make pancakes, do some craft and build sandcastles with a heap of home school families.

Poor lonely unsocialised home school kids, with no loving adults to actively spend time with them. 😂

They all sat in a circle and got to know each other a bit more, and then broke off into activities.

First, they made pancakes.

“I had maple syrup on mine.” Said Lincoln.

“Me too!” Said Mila. “I love fake maple, it’s better than real maple syrup.”

I agreed.

Then, they made some art with bark & paint & Mila made me the most beautiful valentines card! (She also snuck into our room this morning and strung up woven love hearts that she’d made, all along our bed head. Sweetheart!!) 🥰

After art, they played on the beach and made sandcastles.

Not a bad day huh?

I mean really, what else is there? 💗💗💗💗

Mila and her bark and flower art.

Lots of shark eggs on the beach.

They always love playing in the super warm creek.

Harry Potter

I got home from work and heard all about the day.

After dinner Liam went to play squash & the kids & I lay on the sofa & Linc read Harry Potter aloud to us.

English, tick!

Oh, our word of the day; gorge! (Which is exactly what I did with the chocolate crackles Lincoln made over the weekend. OINK! 🐷)

Back in our school days, maybe a year ago, they never wanted to read and so I said, “I’ll pay you $2 for every book you read.” I just paid Mila $10 and Lincy $6. (In only a couple of weeks!) 😬
