Day 64

11th February 2022

Wild Apples

Wild Apples
Picking wild apples near the farm. 🍏

This morning I got a text from the farmer, “Bring containers for apple juice today. There is a very good chance we’ll raid some local apple tress, and I’ve built an apple press!”

Too exciting!

Sadly, I got the text after the kids had left but never mind. It sounded like a great day lay ahead.

“We picked apples today mum.” Said Lincoln.

“We took 2 ladders, and some people climbed the tree & threw them down and some people caught them.” He continued.

“We got a big sack full of apples!” Said Mila.

“And the police came!” Lincoln added.

“Really?!” I said intrigued.

“The policeman said,

“I don’t think that’s the best place to do that.”

and then he drove away.” Lincoln continued.

“He didn’t tell us to stop.” Said Mila. 😂

Cold Press

The farmer had made a cold press and so they got to work cutting the apples.

Chop chop!

Next, it was time for some fresh juice.

Hmmm. No juice.

They needed a stronger tool! This could only mean one thing.

Tractor time!

Turns out these apples weren’t very juicy. 😕

“The apples were stronger than the tractor!” Lincoln & Mila both cried.

If there had have been juice to squeeze, I’m pretty sure a tractor would have done it! 😂 What a cool experiment.

They loved it.

Meanwhile

Dad found a nature walk that was full of mushrooms!

Forging

“I forged a fire poker!” Lincoln announced, proudly producing a black metal object.

“I forged this mum.” He continued.

“I put it in the furnace and it got really hot, like 5000 degrees!”

“Then I put it on an anvil and banged it with a hammer to make this square shape, and then I put it in the vice and turned it and that made this twist.” He explained.

“We did the twist so you could tell we were real forgers.” He said proudly.

He was so excited.

“Who’s we? Did Frances make one with you?”

“No he wasn’t there today. I made it with Tom. It was just Tom and I. The others were playing the Frisbee game. I don’t know why you would want to do that when you could be a FORGER!!” He said.

[I just went to find his fire poker to post a pic but I don’t know what he’s done with it. 🤔 I’ll post one tomorrow].

“So what else happened? Did you see Matilda the kangaroo?” I asked.

“Yes, but you can’t pick her up because she ate too many blackberries and she’s got diarrhoea.” Said Mila sadly.

“Oh.” I said. 😆

Poland

When they got home from the farm there was a parcel at the front door.

Our Universal Yums Box!!!

They tore it open and looked inside.

Poland!

Right away we went to the map.

Poland is in Eastern Europe and its flag is a white stripe over a red stripe.

We were stoked to learn that Poland LOVES ginger! 💗

There were 3 ginger snacks in our yum box. 😋

Our favourite was a gingerbread soft cookie, iced with a peppermint glaze.

I know what you’re thinking but you’re wrong. The peppermint wasn’t an overkill. It was a perfect paring!!

We gobbled them up.

“Oh, I’m moving to Poland.” They both said. 😆

Tomorrow night, we taste the monster munch potato chips at Lincs request.

Early surf tomorrow! 🏄‍♂️
