Day 60

Gunyah

Today was Dad’s day to home school.

A group of families were headed to the beach to make gunyahs, and so Liam & the kids joined in.

We were first introduced to the term ‘gunyah’ when the kids were at preschool.

I learnt more about Aboriginal cultures through Lincoln & Mila’s preschool years, than in my whole life!

So sad. 😒

Since then, we’ve made many a gunyah! We make them on bush walks, we make them at the beach, & when we find them we add to them.

We feel like if our kids were ever stranded for a night, they would build an awesome shelter!!

They decided they wanted to throw the rope over a tree branch to anchor a tarp and then begin building with branches and sticks, and there was only one man for the job…..

He found this little spot that was set under some trees and he made this his place.

I’d love to show you a picture of the gunyah but Liam forgot to take a picture of it!

So, after some fun building gunyahs they went swimming and played ‘sea monster’ which is basically tips with a whole heap of imagination.💗

After the beach they both had a friend over & played on the trampoline & ran around the yard with Pepe.

Both kids came home sunburnt, but I’m not going to go into that because I am trying to stay calm. 😠

Ooh, I almost forgot.

They got to meet some cows this morning while taking me to work.

The cows were right up against the fence and the kids were dying to say hello.

They were a little frightened though and moved away when we got close. 😕

Everyone was tucked up in bed with a book at 7.30pm.

They read every night which I could NEVER get them to do when they went to school. They were never interested.

Now they plough through books!

Lincoln’s almost finished Harry Potter & Mila is about to start the third book in her series called Wolf Girl.

Tomorrow, is my day and that means mama gets a sleep in! 😴
