Day 48

9th December 2021

Hostage

Huh?

When I got out of the shower this morning, I walked out to this. Lincoln was tied to the table with wool & had a dish cloth in his mouth.

Eeew!!

“Is that dish cloth clean?!” I gasped in horror. Urgh, I could literally taste the ewness.

“Yes, it is.” Mila replied, her eyes crazed.

“Why is he? What’s going on?” I looked at Liam.

“I don’t know.” He said, as he took pictures. 🙄

I didn’t have time to get the facts. I had to log on for work.

Mila was laughing like a mad woman, having finally gained full control over her brother.

He broke free of course, and a wrestle match ensued.

It was at this point a work colleague called & I tried hard to fake calmness.

Welcome to Thursday!

Just looking at this makes me want to hurl. 🤢

Mushrooms!

We were sitting at the dinner table last night and Liam declared,

“I’ve got a new interest everybody!”

We all hypothesised about what this could be.

“Do you want to know what it is?” He continued, ignoring our outrageous guesses.

“Mushrooms! I’m going to start foraging for mushrooms, and you’re all going to come with me.” He smiled.

“Mushrooms!” The kids protested. “Noooo!”

We recently watched a documentary on Netflix called Fantastic Fungi and Liam’s gone on a mushroom tangent ever since.

He’s been drinking mushroom tea, and wants to know everything about mushrooms!

Last week a friend dropped over some psychedelic mushrooms that sprouted beside his house.

They were so beautiful! (No, we didn’t eat them. They were just so pretty & we wanted to show the kids).

Magic mushrooms! (We know they’re psychedelic because Liam joined an app that identifies mushrooms. Plus, Super Mario!😂).

Smurf Village! Hmmmm, I’m thinking the creators of The Smurfs may have been trying to tell us something. 🤔 😂
I am quite terrified to eat a mushroom that I didn’t buy at the supermarket. So far all I know is, don’t eat mushrooms with white ‘blades’ underneath. Well, it’s a start!

Mushroom Spores

While on a walk, we came across a mushroom that had matured and was ready to release its spores.

The kids loved seeing this!

Foraging

If I were a mushroom, I’d want to live here.
Liam said, this little wombat let them get so close. He wasn’t frightened at all. Even though Pepe was near strangling himself on his lead trying to get to him.

Diverse

Our word of the day was diverse, which was so fitting because look at all the mushrooms they found!

Healing Shrooms

The doco we watched talked about mushrooms being used to change perspective, aid in alleviating depression, and dealing with PTSD.

According to Healthline, these are the top 6 healing mushrooms & their benefits.

  • The Reishi mushroom is known as nature’s Xanax.  It can help with sleep, anxiety, depression & focus.
  • Lions Mane is a super brain food. It improves cognition, memory & concentration.
  • Chaga is an antioxidant powerhouse. It helps with ageing, inflammation & lowering LDL (bad cholesterol).
  • Shitake can hep with blood pressure & circulation, heart health & lowering cholesterol.
  • Turkey Tail contains a compound called polysaccharide-K (PSK) that stimulates the immune system. PSK is so effective that it’s an approved anticancer prescription drug in Japan!
  • Cordyceps is believed to help with energy, athletic performance & muscle recovery.

So what are you waiting for?

Get down to your local health food store and buy some mushrooms!
