Day 44
3rd December 2021
Farm School

This wonderful day is like sending your kids on camp every week. For one day.
They get so much out of this day.
They just love it.
They started in the usual way; with morning circle to discuss what they all wanted to do.
“Sword battles!”
First, they drew the swords on some wood and then hit the tools to cut them out.
Then, they took to the corral.
Two men go in. One man comes out. 😂

Waterfall
After the tournament was over, they went to a waterfall.
“Different to the one we went to last time.” Linc tells us.
They went swimming & some kids hung out at the falls, and some kids went on a bush walk & did other cool things.
“Mum, look at my feet!” said Mila.
I wasn’t sure how to respond. They looked filthy, but otherwise kind of normal. 😬
“There, there, there, and there and there!” Mila went on.
“I had hundreds of leeches on me. I didn’t even know most of them were on me, and I had to pick the other ones off.” She went on.

Reptile Boy
Just two days ago Linc was crying on our bed because I wouldn’t let him get a snake or bearded dragon, and so it was serendipitous that they found a lizard today!
At first, I thought it must have been a farm pet, or something.
Nope. This guy was just wandering along and Linc thought he’d stop him for a cuddle.
Lincoln is so much like his Dad. Liam picks up snakes, and lizards and deadly spiders, all the time. 🐍
100% nature blood.

Lunch Time
So I said, “What did you do after lunch time?”
“We don’t have lunch time. We just eat when we’re hungry!”
So simple. So extraordinary.
Damper
After their adventures at the waterfall, it was time to dry out around the fire, and make some damper.
“I cooked mine until it was all black with charcoal.” says Mila.
“You both smell like smoke, and you’re absolutely covered in the farm. I can tell you’ve had a really fun day.”
They literally had life smeared, all over them.
Before home-school, their life was so sterile & rigid.
Ties & tucked shirts, tights & tunics. (Alliteration. Tick!😉)
Inside all day, with sheets of paper and lots of instructions.
I just love seeing them wild & free. It fills me with so much joy.

Cows with Guns
They have been singing this song since they got home!
They love it.
They sing and laugh the whole way through it.
Mila said she and her friends were singing it at the farm.
They played it in the car on the way home.
Farm day is the best.
Happy, worn-out kids.
