Day 39
26th November 2021
Muuum!
I heard from somewhere far off inside my dream.
It was the middle of the night.
I threw the covers off and bolted into Lincolns room.
“Mum” He groaned, holding his tummy and writhing in bed.
“What’s wrong, sweetie?”
“Urgh, my tummy. URGH!”
I got him some Panadol and he wrapped his clammy arms around me, and I stroked his head until he was asleep again.
I don’t know how long I was asleep for. It couldn’t have been longer than an hour or so, and then I heard him again.
“MUM!”
Covers flew across the room once more, and I was upright and at his side.
Then I heard that unmistakable sound.
Projectile vomit.
He was still in bed. 😩😩😩
Poor Linc.
I stripped the sheets, made a new bed, cleaned him up, and settled him back to sleep.
He woke me up for a third time at 4am, and I managed to get him back to sleep.
I walked into a wall going back to my bed. I honestly didn’t know which room I was in. I was so tired.
In the morning I woke up and staggered out to the lounge room.
One of my eyeballs fell out of my head and rolled across the carpet where I saw Linc half asleep on the sofa.
I WAS SO TIRED!
Even as I type this my eyes are still scratchy.
Today was farm school, but Linc wasn’t going. 😕

On The Tools
When Mila came home today, she said
“Lincoln chose the wrong day to stay home. We whittled all day!!”
(Lincy got a pocket knife for his birthday & he loves it).
“First, I stripped all the bark off, then I whittled and whittled. Then I drew a heart on it and now I’m cutting it out.”
“Oh cool!” I said. “Where is it?”
“At the farm! I’m still working on it.” She says.
“I was using the drill too.” She said matter-of-factly. I could tell she was so proud to have used real tools.
By herself!

Baby Chicks!
“Mama the baby chicks hatched!”
“There were 3 out already, Lavender, Forest Heart, and I forget the other ones name. And there was a little one who just had his beak out.”
“I love the name Forest Heart.” I said.
“Oh, he’s called that because he keeps running off into the forest and we have to chase him and bring him back.” 😍
“We got to hold them & cuddle them as much as wanted but we couldn’t take them outside” She went on.

Meanwhile
I was working from home with a sick little guy.
I was in my room, and he kept coming in for cuddles when he got cold, or needed more medicine.
I was typing away and when I looked down. He was fast asleep.
I was so envious!! 😴😴

Emotional Strength
Listening to Mila talk about her day is magical.
She talks with a confidence & passion that’s catching fire in her.
We can see the skills the farm is giving her.
She’s so powerful.
You can tell she feels empowered & strong.
“What else did you do today?” I asked.
“Oh, we played cafes. Just the girls.” she said.
“What were the boys doing?” I asked.
“Making bombs.” She continues. 🤣
“It was my job to keep the fire going. So, I had to open the door, put the wood in, then Leo gives us the fire dust, and we put it on the fire and it goes boom!!”
“I was the waitress too. I had to take the orders and then bring the food out. We made hot chips & sweet potato hot chips and Tom had a barrister flat white.” 😂
“Then Tom put some oil in a bowl, and we dipped out sticks in and then put them in the fire and it made big flames, like this big!” She demonstrates with her tiny hands.
There’s just something about her when she tells us about her day. We love it!
The ‘experts’ say, play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development.
“Undirected play allows children to learn how to work in groups, to share, to negotiate, to resolve conflicts, and to learn self-advocacy skills, move at their own pace, discover their own areas of interest, and ultimately engage fully in the passions they wish to pursue.”
Home school is teaching us how to be free.
Free thinking, free spirited, free from instructions, free to grow, free to learn and so much more.
I think Mila said it best yesterday when she stated so proudly,
“I’m ready for life.”
