Day 28

11th November 2021

A Month Of Saturdays

Pepe in bed
Ah sweet, sweet home school. Nice & easy. Even Pepe had a sleep in. 😴 (No, he’s not in a stretch. He’s dead asleep)

If I had to sum up what it feels like to home school, I would say it feels like a month of Saturdays.

You wake up and then all the tension leaves your body when you realise,

IT’S SATURDAY!

Home school feels like that. (Mostly)

No reaching for the time to see how late you already are.

No flinging off the covers and launching into the morning routine.

Ironing uniforms. (Yes, I know you Sunday ironing mamas are out there, but I’m not one of you).

Rummaging through the fridge to throw together a healthy, waste free lunch.

Racing against the clock, & corralling little people where they need to be.

Home school feels like Saturday.

Sleeping in & banana pancakes.

No stress.

Even when there’s stress, it’s still not the same as morning school routine stress.

And working from home is just the cherry on top!

Nanna Time

Today is grocery day and as it’s Lincoln’s turn this week, Mila bailed & went to Nannas.

She knows exactly what this means.

Getting to do whatever she wants & basically being treated like the Queen of Sheba.

And today did not disappoint.

Mila doing the vacuuming
She packed her own bag and while she waited for Nanna, she did her chores – backpack on. 😂
Mila with nails painted
Nanna did her nails.
Mila on the buggy
She rode on Nanna’s ‘June Buggy”.

And she made rockyroad.

Hahaha. How do you caption this?

Blackjack

Meanwhile, the boys started playing cards.

The kids and I were talking about how ‘the house always wins’. Man, I can’t even remember how we got onto that. We chat a lot & we bounce around from topic to topic.

Anyway, I told them I’d teach them how to play Blackjack. (Maths, right?! 😂)

So, we bought some cards, took the jokers out & began playing 21.

SO good for quick maths.

They have such different playing styles.

Lincoln is calculating & careful.

Mila is a mad woman!

I taught them the language, ‘hit me’ when they wanted a card, and ‘stay’ when they didn’t want one.

“Hit me!” Mila roars like a drunk frat boy.

She’s so reckless! She hits on 18!! 😫

We had so much fun.

I wondered, would it be inappropriate to host a Casino Royal playdate with a heap of kids? Statistics & Probability? 🤔😬

Lincoln & Dad playing Spit
They moved on to Spit.
Cards in a row
They are pretty obsessed with cards atm.

Coffee Shop

With Dad, all roads lead to the coffee shop & today Linc got to make his very first coffee! (No, he didn’t drink it).

He was so excited.

He was so proud of his coffee!

Linc’s first coffee. The youngest barista in Australia! He even managed some coffee art!

Linc at the coffee shop
“Hey Linc, do you want a cake?” They tricked him into biting used coffee grinds! Mean Daddy! 🤣

Bike Track

After the café they checked out a new bike track.

If we’re not skating, we’re biking.

But we gotta be rollin’ baby!

Bike track
Bush tracks with jumps rule!
Dam
Surprisingly, he did not end up in the dam today. But give him time. 🙄

Random Alone Time

When they got home, Liam had to run out for a few hours and Mila was not due back until bed time.

Then Linc got an invite for a play date!

Suddenly, I was alone in my house!!

I’d finished work & my house was empty.

What just happened? So nice!

I put on some music and made a big pot of dahl.

Cooking without being hammered with questions is gorgeous. Slow, & relaxing.

Mazzy Star’s – Fade Into You came on my playlist.

It shot me straight back to some special memories in the 90’s.

A whole world away.

When there was no digital life. Only life.

I’ve been lost there all night.

In case you haven’t heard this in a while. Press play and close your eyes.
