Day 194

23rd September 2022

Farm Day

Having a public holiday yesterday, threw off our rhythm, and we almost forgot it was farm day today!

I ran out the door to see my client and Liam drove the kids to the farm.

We got home about the same time and had lunch together, which was nice.

Afterwards, I took Pep for a run and Liam went to work.

Then, it was time to collect the kids and I set off through the fields to the farm.

When I got to the pickup spot, they were shivering in the van.

“Mama!” Mila called out like a baby lamb.

“I’m cold mama! I forgot my jacket.” 😢

“I cut my foot.” Linc said, poking his head out of the sliding door.

“Oh no! Jump in the car and warm up. I’ll have a look at your foot Lincy.” I soothed.

“It’s a deep cut. I better get a tetanus shot, just in case.” He rationed. (It wasn’t deep, & it was tiny).

We cranked the heat and set off for home.

On the way home, they chatted about their day; games of tips, wresting on the trampoline, cooking brownies and a cake, listening to stories, tools and getting caught in the rain.

As we weaved our way along the bends, I listened to their chatter and thought how lucky they were.

How Liam & I wanted to create the perfect childhood for them & realising we’d done that.

They have time with me, time with Dad, time with their friends, free time to follow their own interests & lots and lots of time to play.

I sometimes wonder what’s in store for them. In their future. I wonder if the childhood we’re building for them, will be strong enough to see them through.

When I checked on them at bedtime, I gazed at their sleeping faces, soaked with innocence and trust.

I sat there & sent them all my love & best intentions.

Maybe one day, that will count for something too.
