Day 173

23rd August 2022

English/Arts

We got straight into it this morning!

I made them a smoothie and then Mila was at the table with me for English, and Linc was on the sofa revising his math’s book.

He’s finished math’s for this year. I still haven’t decided if we’ll continue with tangible books, or move to an online platform.

We know lots of people who use online resources, and they love it.

Video learning is great, it’s just that Linc gets so distracted by the computer. Hmmm, not sure what to do with this one. 🤔

Anyway, he did revision today.

Mila took dictation and focused on her spelling and grammar.

Next, Mila went to the sofa for maths. She’s also finished her math’s book and so for now she’s moved on to a year 5 book we had laying around. It’s suited for ages 9-11 and she was able to complete it almost on her own, so I think we’ll just continue with that until next year.

Linc began writing his essay on Peru.

He was pretty hard to motivate today. Once I got him on task, he was great.

Reluctant study boy.

Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Next, we got our history book and I read the next chapter.

Today we learnt how King Nebuchadnezzar built a beautiful garden for his wife, the daughter of the Persian king, to ease her longing for the mountains of Persia and all the flowers and plants that grew there.

The kind ordered stone to be delivered. He covered these with dirt and built a mountain, filled with plants and flowers from Persia.

There were paths all over the mountain for her to walk.

We learnt that the Babylon gardens are one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world.

Cookies!

Linc’s beautiful & intricate cookie cutter, that he 3D printed.

It’s been ages since the holiday workshop, where Linc designed his own cookie cutter.

Today, it was finally ready to collect!

The cookie cutter is a blockfruit, from a video game.

He did such a great job. It’s beautiful!

Although, the stem of the fruit was so thin, we had to be very careful. We lost a few stems, but all in all, it was a successful bake session.

The librarian also gave him a smiley face cutter.

Drawing

After the cookies they sat down for drawing with their digital apps.

Later in the day, I dropped the girls off to drama, the boys to basketball and then went to collect a present for Liam.

TOMORROW’S LIAM’S BIRTHDAY!!!

As ever, tired and ready for bed. 😴😴😴
