Day 168

16th August 2022

Loom Take 2!

It was 7.45am when I shuffled out of bed & down the hallway to see loom band bracelets in full production.

“Mum what colours do you want? I’m going to make you a bracelet?” Linc asked with excitement.

There was a little squabble over who was going to make me one first, but we moved past it pretty quickly.

“Um, I like blue annnnd, green!” I decided.

“What about for me mama?” Mila asked with bed hair and pink cheeks.

“Um, black and white.” I answered.

They were satisfied and got to work.

I made avocado on toast, a hot cup of tea, and sat down with them.

But not for long because they both wanted smoothies and were too busy making my bracelets to make it themselves. 🙄

Not long after, I was gifted with these beauties.

NEBUCHADNEZZAR

After breakfast and a loom band session, we snuggled down for history.

Today we learnt that after King Ashurpanipal died, the Assyrian empire fell and the Babaloynians took over the land.

The Babaloynian king, Nebuchadnezzar, rebuilt Babylon and built huge walls around the city, to keep it safe.

Although Nebuchadnezzar was known as a great ruler, clay tablets during the time of his reign, talk about his madness.

The stories say that for several years, he actually lost his mind.

Nebuchadnezzar believed he was greater than god. He build an enormous gold statue of himself and made the people bow down and worship it.

“I am the most powerful king in the world. No one is greater than me, not even god. I am greater than god.” He said.

Record scratch.

Uh-oh!

At this point a voice came down from above and said.

“Nebuchadnezzar, you have become too proud. You think you have become greater than god himself, now listen to your doom. You will act like an animal, & eat grass like a cow, until you admit that God is more powerful than you.”

So, this is exactly what he does!

At once he lost his mind.

He ran into the fields and lived like an animal. He walked on hands and knees until his knees were as tough as hooves & his fingernails as long as bird claws. He drank from the river & his hair grew long and shaggy until he resembled a goat.

The children thought this was pretty hilarious and chatter began immediately about what he might look like.

I seized the opportunity.

“Lets draw Nebuchadnezzar in his time of maddness!” I said.

With that, we were up at the table, sketch pads as the ready.

Lincy’s drawing – he drew Nebuchadnezzar beginning to grow a tail! 😂
Mila drew her Nebuchadnezzar pooping in the fields. 😂
My effort. Looks like it was a rough night! Haha.

English/Arts

Mila did an art study today on shades.

She had to study a beautiful painting by an artist from the Netherlands and we discussed how many shades of green there were and how many colours combine to make each shade of green.

A myriad of green!

She then continued to write a short essay on the Netherlands, writing the opening paragraph, and then cutting and pasting the body and closing paragraphs, in the correct order.

Linc organised his research on Peru into paragraphs and then worked on homophones and spelling.

For math’s, we smashed out some more times tables.

Animation/Illustration

After our core lessons, they were jumping up and down to continue with their digital projects.

Linc continued on with his animation tutorials.

It sounds technical, and he gets frustrated at times trying to learn the software, & figure out the process. It seems super bitsy!

No wonder they have an endless list of animators in the credits of an animated film!

He battles on though and completed his first animation! Hooray!

It doesn’t seem like a lot, but this took 45 minutes to code! He’s learning loads. Can’t wait for him to go freestyle!

Mila continued with her illustrations, for her and Dad’s book.

Today, she drew the bunny.

Bunny-Wunny 😍

Netflix & Chill

After this we took Pepe for a walk & picked up a couple of things from town and then came home for lunch and a movie.

They chose the Wish Dragon.

Proof that Pepe does actually move from his bed. 😂

While they watched a movie, I had a massage & caught up on some reading.

NOT.

I did a couple loads of washing & all the folding. 😩

When people you know fall pregnant, instead of gifting baby clothes & teddys, you should be giving bottles and bottles of detergent, and a drying rack!

Later, I taxied them off to drama and basketball training.

I feel like today was good learning day.

And a day I did entirely, in my sweat pants! 😉
