Day 149

20th July 2022

Books & Oodies

Yes, our doggie is asleep. 😂

This morning we were sleepy & slow & so we started with books & blankets & snacks.

This term we will be learning all about England!

A friend loaned us a cool Shakespeare resource, to introduce the kids to ‘old English’.

So, we sat around our table and read out insults, written by William Shakespeare!

Hilarious!!

The kids were in hysterics.

Your brain is as dry as the remainder biscuit after voyage.

A most notable coward, an infinite and endless liar, an hourly promise breaker, the owner of no one good
quality.

I am sick when I do look on thee.

I’ll beat thee, but I would infect my hands.

Afterwards, they wrote a couple of their own but both of them were too shy to have their work printed here. 😔

Palace Hedges

One of our books on England talked about the Tudors, and their palace gardens.

The style at the time was to grow hedges into a maze.

The kids loved this.

When they saw this activity, they wanted to make their own maze!

First, we had to make green playdough. 😃😃😃

Working with warm playdough is the best! We always make our own & it keeps longer, too.

Mila’s maze.
Lincoln decided he wanted to use paddle pop sticks & Mila went rogue.
Can you guess who is it? It’s Bridget, from Trolls! 😂

P.E.

The rain stopped and we took Pep for a run.

We did a lap and then wondered how long it would take for us to walk around and so we set the timer and did another lap.

Next, they wanted to know how long it would take for them to run around the oval.

“Ah, I don’t know. Why don’t you run around and I’ll time you.” I said as slyly as a fox.

And they did!

So, we ticked off P.E. without even trying.

(Each time we start a new term I have reoccurring thoughts that we don’t do enough ‘work’ and I find myself mentally ticking off learning activities. It’s dumb, I know. But it’s a hard thing to break.)

A crisp morning run. 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻

Later…

After lunch they just kept going!

Lincoln made chocolate crackles and Mila made dough.

She wanted to make ‘pigs in blankets’ only with jam and cream.

They made so much mess today!

Yesterday we made beanies & pom-poms and the table was still covered with wool.

I mean covered!!

By the end of the day today, the floor was covered in wool scraps, flour, dough bits that had been squished flat like gum on a footpath, and green playdough.

I was about to begin the cleaning up when we remembered, basketball!! 😲😲😲

We flew out of the house & when we returned an hour later with 2 extra kiddos, I was making pasta on the fly, surrounded by mess.

It was hectic!!

Zoo

On Monday nana took them to the zoo and they were finally allowed to hold all the animals again. (I didn’t think animals could get Covid?) 🤔

I knew Linc would hold a snake, but I didn’t think Mila would hold a pile of snakes.

A pile of snakes!!

She looks so calm!!

Oh, and later they did the grocery shopping.

Mila stood on a stool at the cupboard and called out what we needed and Lincoln wrote a list.

Then I cruised behind them in supermarket, while they gathered the things. 😎

Afterwards they put the things away!

Home-school for the win.

It’s getting harder and harder to take a natural picture of them. They’re such hams!
