Day 142
17th June 2022
Mila & Margaret

“Mama, I got to lead Margaret!” Mila blurted out on the phone.
“What? Wow!!” I replied.
“Were you scared?” I asked.
“No.”
“Did it feel powerful?” I wondered, outloud.
“No.”
“It felt nice.” She said.
I remembered back to when I used to lead my horse John, and I felt a bit scared.
John was an Appaloosa. You know the horses with the speckles on their rump?
Can’t remember how many hands he was, but he was big.
Really big.
One time when I was walking him, he became startled and reared up and landed firmly on my feet.
Which were barefoot.
I screamed blue murder, and lead him back to the pen sobbing and limping.
I got in trouble for not having shoes on. 😒
Anyway, Margaret looks very gentle and I’m so happy Mila had the chance to lead such a special animal on her own.
Farm school rocks!!
I took Pepe for a run and when I got home the kids walked in the door, just minutes after.
“Mum look at my stick!” Mila cried.
“I’m sanding it until it’s as smooth as silk.” She announced proudly.
“You should feel Indi’s. It’s as smooth as silk.” She went on.
Lincoln hugged me and then ran for the computer as he’d missed his time this morning and as computer time is the currency of children, I owed him.
Apparently.
“What did you do today?” I asked dying to hear the news.
“We dug!” Lincoln called out.
He was covered in dirt.
“Ah, I see that.” I said, wondering if his light-grey tracksuit pants could still be considered a ‘light’ load.
“We played in the girl club house.” Mila declared.

“Cool.” I said.
“The boys gave it to us and now it’s ours. We’re making spears to keep them out.” She said.
“We had a fire too!” Mila boasted.

“Where’s your club house?” I asked Lincoln.
“It’s a hobbit hole.” He corrected me.
“Oh.” I said.
“I’m not telling because the girls don’t know and we even built decoy fires so they don’t know where we are.” He went on.
“Well thanks for telling me, that will make it easier to find you!” Mila teased.

“Did you make the cupcakes?” I asked.
Lately, Mila has been taking a packet cake mix to cook at Wildwood.
“Yes!” She gasped.
“And we put the chocolate butterflies on top and the sprinkles.” She said excitedly.
“Tom bought in scones too.” Lincy said.
“He works at a cafe now.” Linc said sounding impressed.
They were filthy dirty from head to toe.
I ran a bubble bath, fed them mamas famous creamy pasta and they were tucked up in bed with their wheat bags at 7.30pm on the dot.
Friday really is the best day. 💗
