Day 121
18th May 2022
Cultural Issues

We took breakfast to the sofa and started the morning with a book called Cultural Issues.
Following on from our book on rules and society, I thought this one kind of finished off the subject pretty nicely.
We learnt about culture, culture and religion, culture and society, stereotyping, prejudice & discrimination & it led to lots of interesting discussion.
Even though they’re very young, they still had prejudices that have been given to them from TV & movies.
For example, they felt more comfortable talking with someone dressed in a Hawaiian shirt with flowers on it then a person on a motorbike with lots of tattoos and piercings.
Maybe they really do feel this way, or maybe they’re conditioned to know the flower shirt was the ‘correct’ answer to the question. 🤔
We discussed keeping an open mind and the importance of being respectful to others, even if they seem different to us on the outside.

ENGLISH

After our book, Mila and I sat at the table for English/Arts and Lincoln went for a shower.
Mila completed English & then Math’s like a champ.
When Lincy came out we found ourselves in an argument. 😣
I don’t even know how it happened?!
I think it was over cereal. He became cranky because we don’t keep rice bubbles in the house & it spiraled from there.
There was no way he was going to do his core.
He stormed off & slammed the door.
I released a sigh. Far out, parenting is hard sometimes.
After he calmed down, I went to chat with him and we decided to buy snacks, pull the blankets out, and watch a movie.
I was feeling defeated that I couldn’t get him over the line with his core but for whatever reason, he’d reached his limit.
Reset
First, we had to take Pepe to the park for a run and then we could laze the morning away.
We had plans in the afternoon, but that was hours away.
It’s amazing what animals can do.
When we got to the dog park Havoc was there.
Havoc is an enormous, white, Irish Wolf Hound.
He is HUGE and absolutely dwarfs Pepe.
They had lots of cuddles and doggie licks [ew!] and then we hit the shops for snacks.

They were so happy to be getting junk food they carefully negotiated the choice so as not to argue in case I changed my mind.
They settled on Twisties and TV Snacks. 😂
We got home, finished the sushi from yesterday, got blankets and settled down with the snacks.
Life was good. [Again.]
Maybe I was wound up too, because it felt so good to just snuggle and watch movies in the middle of the day, throwing all responsibility to the wind.
We laughed and re connected and it was just what we needed.
Earlier, morale had been low. 😟

Bush Walk
We had to pause our movie right at the end to go and meet our friends for a bush walk.
We took afternoon tea and found a nice spot deep in the gorge to sit and hang out.
Surrounded by nature.
Spending time with friends.
It was a nice way to finish the day.
