Day 120
17th May 2022
All Business

Liam had a late start today, so we began our day with family breakfast. 😃
Shortly after we jumped straight into it.
They wanted to do craft. Lincoln wants to make a Demon Slayer mask (which I think is from a Japanese Anime) and Mila wanted to make a large cat.
They began printing & cutting out templates & making a mess on the floor.
We usually do craft projects in the afternoon as they can go on for hours so I had to find a way to press pause so we could do our core.

History
I transitioned into history while they were still cutting. 😎 (If you’re little people aren’t keen to come together to start the day, this is such a great way to instigate discussion and move them on. Just start reading!)
We read about ancient cities being built along side rivers. We knew this gave the people water to drink, & water for their crops and animals, but today we learnt how ancient people used the river as a tool.
They used the water to move their harvest & building materials to other countries for trade purposes.
Lincoln remarked how people had come a long way from being nomads who were at first frightened to swim in deep water to now using it as a tool.
We spoke about tribes & cities of the past & how their way of life had led to the cities and way of life we know today.
Somehow, we got onto talking about how lucky we were to live the way we do and that developing nations had very poor people who have not yet reached our standard of living.
“Like in India.” Mila stated.
We went to YouTube to see the poverty in other countries so that we could be thankful and humble.

English
Lincoln kept going with his craft and Mila and I started English.
Today, she did more work on essay writing. This time it was on The Swiss Alps.
After reading a passage on Switzerland, she had to write the opening paragraph on her own and then cut & paste the paragraphs in their correct order.

Afterwards, there was an art exercise where she was asked to draw the Swiss Alps & colour each one with a different tessellation. (So timely after Math’s yesterday!)

Lincoln joined us at the table and began working on his essay about Optimism & Pessimism.
I made hot chocolate and vegemite toast (a favourite mid-morning treat), and we pressed on with Math’s.
It was all over by 10am. History, English, Math’s with a detour on the poverty in India along with discussions on our privileged Western life.

Town
Next, we headed to the shops to buy foam for Lincolns mask and some other bits we needed.
We stopped off at the library to swap our books.
Mila found a book on origami, procured some paper and plonked herself down on the floor to make a paper turtle.
Lincoln disappeared and returned later with a book on science experiments. (Which means, we’re going to have a messy week!)
Mila picked up some super thick wool and then we were too hungry to do anything but go home and make sushi.

Sushi
We made sushi and at 2pm they had free time until their friends arrived after school.
We did have a looooong debate in the car about why Linc is not allowed a TV & computer set up in his room which was extensive and exhausting but other than that, we had a really good day.

Here’s Mila goofing around with her friend. They had a fashion parade and came out in many, many different outfits.
It turned dramatic with lots of acting.
Here is the happy couple! 😂
