Day 119
16th May 2022
Early Start

The kids had a lot of energy this morning.
At 6.30am, after being woken 3 times already, I decided to get up.
I sat eating breakfast in a grump.
Mila put her tiny arms around me and said, ‘Sorry mama’.
But even her sweetness could not ease my scratchy eyes or the dull headache across my forehead.
I went for a shower and when I got out, they’d stopped fighting and were playing a card game in Lincolns room.
It was just after 7am when I called them out to the desks where I had Math’s ready and waiting.
I thought they’d protest, but they didn’t!
As I put my makeup on for work, I could even hear then helping each other! 😮
Today they did work on symmetry & tessellations.

Mila wasn’t supposed to be doing tessellations, but she wanted to do the same as Lincoln so, she skipped a few grades. 😂
After this, they went straight into English.
Lincoln began an essay on optimism & pessimism and Mila began working on words ending in c, ck, and k.
Why is English so confusing!! Just pick a ‘ker’ sound and stick with it! 😡
Don’t you love the way English will explain a complicated spelling rule and then list columns and columns of words that are ‘exceptions’ to that rule?
Just say, here’s a tonne of words, now memorise them.
With English and Math’s ticked off for the day I left for work.
Motor

Liam said they spent a couple of hours working on the prototype for their Mark Rober project.
They decided instead of gears and a crank, they wanted to build a motor so they went to the store and bought everything they needed, and the kids went to work drilling holes, & connecting the wires to the battery.
They’ve built circuits before, but Liam was impressed that they didn’t need any instructions or help from him to do this. ✋
The motor was running too fast. Our ice cream scoop catcher was not going to catch anything moving that quickly.
Previously, we’ve put in a resistor to slow down the flow of electrons but this time, it wasn’t working. 🤔
Tomorrow, we’ll consult the other engineers also doing the course.

Pepe stole the waffle cone they were using to shape the base of the build and then wouldn’t give it back, growling and barking whenever they came near.
“Pepe barked and then Dad barked back!” Mila said astounded.
“Dad was being the alpha dog.” Linc added. 😂
After that they put him in his pen to teach him a lesson. Although, they didn’t get the waffle cone back.

Fishing

Next, they went fishing off the wharf.
It was such a beautiful day!!
The sun finally shone down. 🌞
Mila was so excited by Lincoln’s catch last week, she was desperate to try her hand.
“Mum, I caught a fish!!” Mila announced with glee, jumping up and down.
“It was the end of the day, and it was our very last piece of bait!” Lincoln added.
“It was 5cm big.” Liam said.
“I let him go. He was too little.” Mila said.

They sat on the grass and had chips for lunch & then came home for their computer time & Liam took a bath.
Although it started with lots of early arguing and bickering, it picked up and they all had a nice day.
