Day 111

4th May 2022

English

Our little bed head baby. 😍😍😍

I was determined to get our learning routine back on track today.

I knew Linc would be the hardest to motivate so I let him play math’s games online first, while I sat with Mila at the table and started English.

He STILL complained! 😩 (Although, he did do it).

I sat with Mila girl, her bed hair making me smile, and she read to me while I sipped my tea.

After this we practiced her spelling, and then her focused lesson. Today she practiced when to use comma’s in a sentence.

We also learnt the difference between a sentence and a fragment.

Her pencil grip is going strong. I’m still amazed that I could teach her this in just 2 weeks (with a cash incentive) yet she didn’t learn it in 2 years of school).

Her handwriting is leaps and bounds from where she was when we first started to home school. She practices handwriting twice a week & it takes her maybe 10 minutes, with an art exercise at the end of each page.

Next, it was Lincoln’s turn.

Mila went to play math’s games online, and Linc sat with me.

He wasn’t the happiest little student today, so I sweetened the deal with one of Mila’s cakes from yesterday. 😎 (Parenting 101 – FOOD!)

Lincoln’s lesson was on editing.

He had to edit quite a large body of text using the editing codes to add capitals, commas, correct spelling etc.

He then studied a beautiful painting and answered written questions.

For all his grumbling, he expresses his thoughts and ideas so beautifully!

Lincy’s handwriting is also excellent. Far neater than mine!

Gilgamesh

After English, we jumped straight into History.

History is a great transition subject because they don’t have to do anything but snuggle up and listen.

They really enjoy the stories from History.

Today we learnt about Gilgamesh. When I read his name, I used a funny voice and they made me use it throughout the whole story, and so it did become quite humorous.

Basically 4000 years ago, Gilgamesh was an evil tyrant who oppressed his people however, at some stage, he has an epiphany and decides to be good and kind and somehow becomes a hero!

All throughout dinnertime they kept saying, Gilgamesh in the funny voice.

Dad didn’t get the joke. 😂

Library

After history we took Pepe for a walk before going to the Library.

Here’s Pep panting his little heart out. He always lies on the cold tiles when we come home from a walk. He’ll sleep for the rest of the day!

I figured since the election is coming up, it was a great time to learn about rules, and laws, & government etc so we loaned some books on this subject and we’ll incorporate them into our reading.

Mila made a friend at the colouring table and Linc was lost in Japanese Anime.

Linc asked to watch the Japanese Anime ‘One Piece’, and I said yes, but after watching a little with him last week I’ve now banned it and he’s very cross with me. 😒

Ah, will someone tell the people in charge, that red mushrooms with white spots are highly hallucinogenic?!
Where did my baby go? He’s not a little boy but not yet a teenager…the tween years have taken me by surprise!

Minow

While we were out, they wanted to go to the pet shop to see Minow the kitten & because I’m actually a big softy, I said yes.

We all fell in love with him. 😍

Linc noted how he looks like Pepe with his white face and tips.

They both asked if we could keep him and I told them Minow would become a snack for Pepe if we took him home!

Bushwalk

We had just enough time for a bushwalk before we had to be home to meet a tradie who’s doing some work on the house.

It’s one of our favourite walks. We’ve been coming here since they were strapped to me in a baby carrier.

The sun had gone. It was cloudy and moody but lovely just the same.

We balanced.
We jumped, & swung from trees.
We contemplated. (They call this ‘Whale Rock’ and always take the time to sit on it).
We learnt about bracken ferns and maiden hair ferns. This one is a maiden hair.

By the end of the walk, they were really tired.

So was I!!

We came home for lunch and rest, however regular school was out & so suddenly their energy was back, & they went to play in the neighborhood with friends.

I blitzed the house because my tradie was coming.

I had a long list of questions ready to go, and you know what?

He cancelled on me!! 😭

Woodwork tomorrow with Dad.
