Day 87
16th March 2022
Ned Kelly

Liam and I could have done with another day lazing in bed, but the kids are so overstimulated from their 4 days of non-stop gaming we couldn’t do it to them. (Even though they were begging for more video games).
They were ratty and unsettled and amped up.
I decided right away English & Math’s were off!
Concentration was low.
We needed to do something very chilled.
We watched a video on Australian bushrangers & learnt that early Australia was freeing hundreds of convicts a day on the premise that they would claim land, find work, settle down and populate the towns etc.
Ambitious, but ok.
So, most of them did do that but some of them took to the bush to continue their life of crime.
These people were known as ‘bolters’.
During the final shoot out at Glenrowan we watched as Ned Kelly does a funny kind of slow-motion space-walk. The kids were laughing and asked what his armour was made from.
We looked it up.
FYI, Ned Kelly’s armour is on display at the State Library in Victoria.
I know. The State Library?
Here’s the video we watched.

We were surprised to learn the helmet weighs 8 kilos & the armour weighs 45 kilos!
No wonder he has that funny walk going on.
He definitely wasn’t going to outrun the Police in that thing.
They were really into this topic and so I suggested we draw our own armour.
I asked if we had to defend ourselves what would we make?
Lincoln chose to draw Ned’s armour and a gun.

Mila’s creativity went bananas. Her drawing is hilarious and took a full 20 minutes for her to describe all the gadgets.

She told this story with so much animation, we forgot about our tiredness for a minute and cried with laughter.
Ok, I’ll do my best to remember it all.
She says the spikes on top are for headbutting if the Police got too close.
The same for the spikes at the bottom of the helmet.
The spikes on her shoulders are for when she’s dancing and she needs to kill someone, then she can do a shoulder move and stab them. (She was up on her feet demonstrating. 😂)
The guns have swirls on them so she can hypnotise the Police first and then squirt acid at them, and then shoot them.
And all the while, there’s the water bottle to keep her hydrated. 😂
Next, the Time To Die boots with evil laugh & hypnotising, acid squirting gun heels. 😂

Basically, if Mila was in Ned Kelly’s gang & you were the Police, you’d better watch out!
Lincoln was asking about the gun shells. He didn’t understand what this meant, so when Linc finished his drawing Liam explained how guns work and what the ‘gun shell’ is.

Model Engine
We had a model engine to build and so Liam took this on like a champ. He & Linc put this together while Mila did some handwriting.

Inside Out
After this we ate lunch and then I was ready for a lay down, so we put a movie on.
We watched Inside Out.
Great movie it you haven’t already watched it. Here’s the trailer.
The movie’s told from the emotions inside the characters head – the headquarters.
There’s the angry emotion, joy, sadness etc. It was really funny and had a great message.
Liam did some more hydro dipping with them next and I went back to bed.
Not our best learning day but that’s ok. We had a nice day together and the kids were a lot calmer by the end of the day.
Hopefully tomorrow, we will all start to feel a lot more normal.
