Day 81
8th March 2022
The Sphinx

I’m an ancient history nerd from way back. I love it.
I’m so thrilled that our kids are loving history as much as me. We start our morning this way almost every day.
But first, let me back up and tell you what is happening in our house!
The blasted rain has turned our yard into a mud swamp with floating grass.
Our dog refuses to go outside to pee and holds on and on and on and won’t get on the lead at all for fear of being shut outside in the rain.
SO!
A couple of days ago, he peed in the house!!! ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
A big, giant, man dog wee. 🤢🤮
Remember that British TV show Little Britain when the old lady in the supermarket just pees her heart out and doesn’t know she’s doing it?
That’s how big the wee was.
OUR HOUSE STINKS!!
We’ve been scrubbing with bi-carb & essential oils; you name it, we’re trying it.
It was almost starting to smell normal again and then last night, Liam came home at 2 in the morning, Pepe jumped up in his pen, froze and did an enormous wee! 😱
I gotta take a stand.
I got the box cutter from the shed & tomorrow I’m cutting up the carpet. We hadn’t planned on polishing the floors just yet, but I can’t live like this.
Our home smells like a pet shop! 😫
Ok, back to history.
Today we discovered the Great Sphinx of Giza was actually calved out of the quarry, using a grid.
First, they chiselled a grid on top, and then cut out blocks from the grid. Some of these blocks were used to form pyramids & the rest used to sculpt the Sphinx.
The kids were so interested with lots of questions and wonderment at the mathematical accuracy.
We watched the video below. (They even go inside the pyramid to Cheops tomb!! Exciting!)
They were hooked!

English/Art

In Mila’s English/Arts book we are learning a lot about Native American’s.
Today we learnt the role of the woman and she was then asked to draw this picture.
The tones used in the illustration were very earthy however, as Mila is half rainbow-half human, naturally hers was very colourful. She says she will finish the sun tomorrow.

The Buzz

For the last few days, Lincoln has been talking about getting a buzz cut. 2 on the sides, 4 on the top.
We LOVE his curls but it’s his choice and so a buzz cut it was.
Well, he is a new man now!!
Proud as a peacock.
His little face lights up whenever he catches himself in the mirror.
He keeps touching it and blushes when I notice and smile at him.
He loves it! (He does look pretty handsome).
Mila had the chop too.
She wanted a bob.
They both look very cute.
Our beautiful neighbour took our & her kids for a walk to see the flood water and they stayed for dinner.
There are so many things that need doing around the house, but I ignored them all, curled up on the sofa and watched TV.
In our very own pet shop.
