Day 98

31st March 2022

Independent Learners!

Just before bed last night Lincoln said he wanted to start his core learning as soon as he woke up. 😲

“Ah, ok.” I replied with skepticism.

I left out their books, open on the table & when I came out at 6.45am, I found them like this. Quietly doing their work.

By the time they went to lino printing at 10am, they’d finished all their core learning. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Philosophy

Watch Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCBiEkHSy5k

Liam even had time for philosophy before they left for art!

Today they watched this video and then discussed the ‘self’.

They talked about what that means and how when we distance ourselves from the ‘self’ or how we view ourselves, we are less effected by negative & positive comments from others.

It’s all about remaining fluid & not locking onto strong opinions but rather, staying open to new information.

If we don’t take ourselves too seriously then it’s harder to be hurt by others and easier to keep growing and learning.

It was 9 o’clock in the morning! πŸ˜‚ Home-school can get deep!

Liam had them write down 10 things about themselves that they were good at and then read their list aloud.

As they did so he heckled them, saying negative things. He explained that when they became defensive & retaliated, this was the ‘self’ defending itself.

Art

Linc decided he wanted a black wolf, which meant cutting out the background. It was a big job but then again, he LOVES tools. 😁

Yesterday, Mila wasn’t sure what to do for her background. Today, she ended up carving lots of scratches and it came out so well.

Liam said they had the best time doing this.

They loved using the rollers to smear paint onto their lino stamp.

They must have made 6 or 7 prints in all different colours.

They turned out really well!

The kids are so proud. I’m going to have a couple framed!

This one belongs to their friend Nicholas. We all thought it looked like an ancient artifact.

So creative.

The final product! He did such a good job of this.
I love the black & white kitty. 😍

Dad bought them Subway for lunch and then it was home for their hour of computer time which gave Liam a block of free time.

After that they went to see the mechanic. πŸ˜‚

Soccer training was cancelled & they each went to a friend’s house for a playdate.

No farm school tomorrow. πŸ˜’

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
