Day 86

15th March 2022

Lately..

Remember that movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?

Well, Cameron should be the poster boy for Covid because this picture pretty much sums it up.

Liam and I lay like this drifting in & out of consciousness while the kids, dosed up on Panadol & Neurofen, played video games from sun up to sun down.

We physically could not parent them or spend time with them or have them cared for.

We’re all on a 7-day isolation lockdown.

Today, I felt marginally better and so I thought we should attempt to do some ‘schoolwork’.

I took them through English and Liam taught Math’s.

Handwriting – Easy to teach. I sit there and eat grapes; they write and eat grapes. ✅

Reading poetry – another easy one for mama.
Dad managed to do Math’s revision. First day out of bed for him on day 5!

They were very fidgety and distracted having been in video game land for 4 days, but we got through it.

I was tired and cranky. 😞

I don’t know why I attempted History.

Delirium?

We learnt how Jacob favoured Joseph and all his brothers were jealous and threw him into a pit & then sold him as a slave to some passers-by.

The kids thought this was pretty funny & they referenced poor Dewy from Malcolm In The Middle.

I made them go outside for a while and then we went back to bed, and they went back to video games.

There is a Mt. Everest of clean laundry to fold and a very antsy dog wondering why he hasn’t been out for his daily run, but none of that is being tended to right now.

My mum dropped over some grocery things & friends dropped over Panadol & goodies & meals.

We have everything we need and are very grateful, but this totally sucks! 😭

The rain finally stops and we become house bound. 😒

Ok, here’s a coinkydink.

Last April we went to see a band called King Gizzard and I broke my jaw.

It’s now almost April, and a whole year later. Liam just went to see King Gizzard & he gets Covid the next day.

Is this band trying to kill us? 🤔

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.
Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
