Day 82

9th March 2022

Morning!

Well, today was a bit dreamy I gotta say.

(Apart from the pee smell. I’m not strong enough to cut through the carpet! Sulk. πŸ˜’ I’m tasking Liam with that job tomorrow while I’m at work).

The sun shone a little, and the rain stopped.

Our little buzz cut boy woke me up with cuddles, followed by bob cut girl, and then Liam got up and brought me a cup of tea in bed. 🍡

Liam left for work, and we kinda got straight into it at about 8 o’clock.

We snuggled on the sofa and learnt about the first dictator, King Sargon of Mesopotamia. (Modern day Iraq, Kuwait, Turkey & Syria).

Our book said he was known as good looking.

We looked him up.

They both gasped.

“He’s not good looking!” πŸ˜‚

We scrolled a little further & found this painting.

“Oh yeah, he’s kind of good looking.” They agreed. πŸ˜‚

Sargon became a ruler by force. He was not loved or respected by the people, and he ruled with his military in every city, enforcing his laws.

We spoke about a dictatorship versus a democratic society and how rules are made in our country.

In their minds the Prime Minister sits on a big chair and says yes or no to the various law changes his subjects bring to him.

We spoke about the House of Representatives and the Senate, and I’m thinking we should head to Canberra to learn more about this.

The Sweet Spot

After history, we broke up for our core work.

Lincoln was on the laptop with Math’s games and Mila was with me at the table for English/Arts.

We were still in our pyjamas but we had such a nice flow going I didn’t want to ruin it.

I got Mila started with English and played some Nora Jones while I put on a pot of soup.

Mila read a poem to me about the moon.

Nora crooned away in the background and it was absolute bliss.

Still wearing the cactus PJ’s, she came home in last night. 😍 (That bob cut is just killing me. What a sweetheart!)

Then we worked on the ‘ea’ phonic, and she was asked to write the words with the long sound inside Africa and the short sound in Asia. (Nice geography/spelling cross over). 😎

Then something strange happened.

Linc had just finished maths & 3 lessons of Japanese when he said, “I’m bored.”

“Come over here with us darling, you can do some handwriting while Mila finishes off English.”

So, he did!

He put down the computer to come and sit with us. 😲

Have I fallen into a wormhole?!

Lincoln would never leave a computer unless asked. He loves tech!

So, over he came and for a moment we all sat together, the soup simmering away, Nora gently filling the space, and our kids learning in their jammies at home with mama bear.

I felt so content. I wondered if I might actually be Forrest Gump to take such enjoyment from what others might think dull & mundane.

I mean, c’mon? How special is this?!! 😍😍😍 And that helmet! πŸ˜‚

Mila finished up English and went to play Math’s games while Linc and I worked at the desk.

He had to spend a minute observing a painting of a field and then write a few creative sentences.

They love when I ‘mark’ their work. 😍

After this we took Pepe to the park for a run & when we came home I gave him a foot spa to wash all the mud off his feet.

Is this what people with dogs do in wet weather??

How do you keep your floor clean if your dog goes outside? We literally got a shallow tub, filled it with warm water and bathed his feet one at a time! πŸ˜‚

It’s the only way to keep the carpet clean!

Soup was next.

Yum.

Then we did some map work, and we finished the day with school friends & milkshakes in town.

Followed by a play at the library. πŸ˜‚ (All the parks are wet!)

He always gets caramel. (Note the fingerless gloves bought 5 minutes prior. He had to wear them immediately).
She always gets strawberry.

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
