Day 69

18th February 2022

Future Hippies

“Mum, pack my swimmers. We’re going to the waterfall this week.” Said Mila very matter-of-factly.

She was right. They did go to the waterfall.

When they got home, they smelt like animals, mud & smoke. So, I knew it was a good day! 😆

“Mum we went to the waterfall!” Mila said throwing her arms around me. (That’s when the smell of the farm first hit me).

“And we took the sofa from the shed and put it in the waterfall.” Said Lincoln.

“What do you mean?” I asked confused.

“Well, not all the way in.” Mila explained. “Just half in and half out.”

“Yeh Jim (the farmer) said he’d always wanted to do that.” Laughed Lincoln.

“Jim is the opposite of the Government.” Mila declared, with a cheeky smirk.

“He encourages madness!” Lincoln added with delight.

“Anyone who ever went to the farm is going to grow up to be a hippy. Including me.” He continued.

“We found a blue tongue lizard today. A big one, and we got to keep him for the day!” Said Lincoln who is a massive reptile fan. (Like his dad).

“I wanted to call him Blue. Blue, the blue tongue lizard.” He continued.

“Did you pick him up?” I asked.

“Yes and I pat him.” He delighted.

“I patted him too.” Mila added.

“That’s so cool.” I said. “What happened next.”

“We made stinging nettle gnocchi.” Lincoln said.

“Well, I didn’t make it, I was sword fighting with Francis. But I ate it. Apart from it being a little bit plain, it was really good!” He said enthusiastically. 😆

“I liked it too mama.” Mila added.

“We went looking for stinging nettles.” Mila continued.

“Did you like the surprise I left in your lunch box?” I asked.

“Yes! I shared it with Maddy.” Said Mila angelically. 😇

“I ate my whole lunch box but I was still hungry! Francis let me have a bite of his sandwich, it was chocolate sprinkles on white bread!!” Lincoln said unbelievably.

“No way.” I said.

“Yes way. It was delicious! He only let me have one bite.” 😆

“Mum can we please have white bread?” He pleaded.

“No.” I said. 😐 (Tough mama!)

What a beautiful day for them to enjoy each week!

Makes us want a farm so bad!!

Ps, I had an x-ray on my ankle today. I lucked out, it’s only a very bad sprain. No broken bones. Phew!

Just chllin’ on the sofa at the waterfall, no big deal. 😆

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
