Day 56

1st February 2022

Hamster Wheel

It was a hot one! ☀️☀️☀️

We met some friends at the park at 10am and it was already pushing 30 deg. 🥵

I met a new friend today who has been home schooling since always, and her children are all teenagers. Her eldest is 18.

I was in awe of her knowledge.

Her confidence.

She had stillness to her, and ease.

Her 15-year-old boy was cool, calm and collected and not in an arrogant teen way. In a way that was real and gentle.

Lincoln pretty much followed him around the whole time. 😄

There were two 14 yr old boys, a 15-year-old and Lincoln, 10 years old.

They all played together. Easily. No one was left out, no one felt out of place.

There were 3 girls, two aged 9 and Mila aged 8. Same thing. All played happily and easily.

The hit of the day was the hamster wheel!

They were all on it.

They were trying to ride it all the way over so that they went upside down.

In the end they won, but the hamster wheel collected them many times. 😄

It was so fun sitting there watching them.

(Also, how special to see teenage boys enjoy the park!! We commented on how the equipment was big enough for them to enjoy, and interesting to them too. Well done park designers. 👏👏 Teenagers should be able to find something amusing at the park. Afterall, they’re kids too!)

Alright, rant over.

Ouch! In point 5 of a second, that’s going to hurt. 😬

We left the park just after 1pm, with sweat dripping off us.

We were even too hot to get our things and go to the pool. We just made icy cold smoothies & lay on the sofa.

Big Apple Squishy

Mila is aiming to recreate this big red squishy apple.

Mila has taken inspiration from Lincolns Star Wars project, and she is making a giant apple squishy from her favourite show ‘Spirit’.

I don’t know how she found the energy, but she did.

There is foam all over the floor. There are cardboard bits all over the floor. It’s a big mess and friends are coming over at 9am!

Anyway, she was using the hot glue gun to stick the pieces of foam together and then she’ll shape the apple, and then paint it.

Progress so far.

We headed out in the heat for summer soccer & took a beating at 4 goals to zero.

The kids were so hot. Some of them were just sitting down on the field. 😄

Finally, we finished off the day cooling down in our friend’s new pool, which was heaven, and now I want one.

Finally off to bed. 😴😴😴

Ocean school tomorrow!!

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
