Day 52

15th December 2021

Bubble Rings

I missed Ocean School today as I had to go to work for a training day. ๐Ÿ˜ž

So Dad day took them, along with the dog, and today they learnt how to blow bubble rings!

Did you know we could do this?

I had no idea!

So they put the weight belts on again, went down to the bottom of the ocean, pulling themselves down with a line this time, and laid on their backs to blow bubble rings.

First, you stick your tongue out making it as round as possible and then blow out quickly, kinda like blowing a raspberry, and the most beautiful thing happens.

Watch this.

Bubble rings! Who knew?

It’s not just humans who can do this.

Animals blow them too, and play with them. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Mila Girl

I am so very proud of Mila.

After our very first lesson of Ocean School, Mila hopped into the car & burst into tears.

“I’m not going back!” She sobbed in a panic.

She said she did everything she was told, and still didn’t float like the others. She said she was sinking. She felt very self-conscious that she was the only one who needed to hold onto the float.

Now, she is free diving to the bottom of the sea, with a weight belt on, collecting dive sticks and blowing bubble rings!

I am so proud of her. She’s come such a long way, and just loves this class now.

And she’s only 8 years old!

Meditation

Before they went into the sea they read from The Big Breath.

One of the free diving superpowers is to stay calm in the water.

They read about the power of their breath and tuning into their bodies, and listening to their thoughts and the practice of sitting still & just letting all of those thoughts go.

What a beautiful book.

Meanwhile

It was a glorious day at work. So good to be back after such a long lockdown.

The training day was fun and as it was 30 deg and sunny, the team used the slide & swam in the pool.

The view from my office.
Earlier in the day we flew down here on Billy carts. So fun!

Nutella

When they got home, they made Nutella.

Did you know you can eat Nutella guilt free if you make it from scratch?

This Nutella is healthy & delicious, and the kids go gaga for it.

It’s so simple.

Just combine hazelnuts, dates, cocoa powder, vanilla & a little salt into a food processor,

and blitz.

Keep blitzing until you get a smooth consistency.
Nutella on toast can be delicious AND good for you! Yum!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

The Storm

When I got home from work, I looked up to see some pretty gnarly clouds closing in. I rushed outside to bring the washing in & we all sat on the back step and watched it roll over.

It was mesmerising.

It was black & menacing, and it was rolling towards us so fast.

A minute later, it was like a tropical rage!

When the storm was over, we all tucked up on the sofa and watched a Christmas movie. (No, not Gremlins this time.๐Ÿ˜‚ We watched The Christmas Chronicles with Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell).

We’ve seen it before, but it was Mila’s choice tonight.

Hound In Heaven

Oh, and look at Pepe enjoying the waves today.

What a sweetheart!

Pepe in paradise. ๐Ÿถ

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thoughtโ€ฆCool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high waterโ€ฆ.I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
