Nanna & Pa’s House

After a sleep in & a lazy morning, Liam & the kids went to run some errands & on the way they stopped at Nanna & Pa’s house.

While they were there, they decided to play a joke on me, and I totally fell for it.

Ok so, Liam rides motorbikes and I hate it!

When he rides away I’m consumed by morbid thoughts, & we agreed that the kids are not allowed to ride on it.

Ever!

So, today I was working from home and my phone pinged.

Linc riding a motorbike — Gasp!! The old Yamaha from my childhood! I returned his txt with; Nooooooooooo!

Motorbike — Something’s not right here. Liam’s not that reckless!

It was Lincoln texting.

Right after these pics, he kept sending me messages & emojis bragging about his ride.

Then shortly after that, they sent this one.

Linc in trailer. — They were on the trailer!! Naughty!

Fields of Joy

The wildflowers are out in full bloom with all the spring rain we’ve had.

Mila wanted to stop and explore.

Delivery!

Whenever we get a delivery, the kids go crazy & almost knock the person over to get to the package.

Today was no different.

Plus, there were two packages!!

Firstly, one was our Universal Yums box! (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/Universal%20Yums)

Drum roll…….can you guess which country we got?

Map — SCANDINAVIA!! Mila grabbed the map right away and began looking for it. We noted how close Scandinavia is to Europe.

The map comes out quite a lot. Their Geography knowledge is really picking up speed.

Geography & Ethics

I never go for these types of lollies, but these particular gummies from Sweden were SO GOOD!

They were sour at first but ended really sweet.

We discovered they’re made by a manufacturing company that runs a 24/7 factory entirely by robots, AND that they were delivered by driverless trucks!

This reminded me of a conversation we had ages ago with my sister who was working on a ad campaign for a car that was driverless.

She was saying the legislation was currently in the courts to determine how driverless cars will react when critical thinking is needed, like in an accident.

For example, the driverless car is driving down the road and 2 pedestrians suddenly dart out in front of the car, and they will surely be hit & killed if the car doesn’t swerve.

If the car swerves, it will collide with the car travelling in the opposite direction who has one driver.

What should the car do?

Mila says, “It should kill the pedestrians because they are doing the wrong thing”.

Lincoln wasn’t sure.

So, we said ok what if the pedestrians were teenagers who were running late for a movie, and hadn’t done the wrong thing on purpose, but just made a mistake, and there were 10 of them.

There is only one person in the car, but there were 10 people running across the road.

‘Who should the car be programmed to save?’

They really didn’t have an answer on this one.

We debated it for some time before Mila finally said,

“Kill the driver in the other car because there’s less loss of life. Save the 10 teenagers.”

Then she quickly said, “Or you could try killing both of them!”

She meant SAVE both of them. 😂😂 Bless her heart.

So, while we started out in Geography, we ended up in ethics.

I’m not sure of the outcome of this issue. If anyone knows, or looks it up, post it below.

Sephira Collins

Our other package was an original artwork ‘On The Walk’ by 9 year old artist Sephira Collins, daughter of my dear friend Jared Collins, once famous New York photographer and all round party guy.

Sephira made some screen prints & sold every last one! Legend!

We were lucky enough to buy this one and we love it! Thanks Sephira, you’re amazing!! 💜💜💜

Divide & Conquer

Shortly after this the kids just couldn’t get along. Urgh.

It starts out as play and then one gets injured and immediately accuses the other of deliberately hurting them.

So boring!!

Screaming & crying & slamming doors.

Such a mood killer. 🤨

Frida Kahlo

After almost losing his mind, clever Daddy set Mila up with the task of making air dry clay. While he took Lincoln down stars to the garage to work on a science thing.

I suggested to Mila, she could sculpt a head of a well-known person.

She suggested Frida Kahlo.

“Perfect!” I said.

Mila doing art — She chose a pic of Frida all on her own & I came out to find her like this. (Pepe thought he was the model😂 ).

Terraquacolumn

Dad & Lincoln went downstairs to discover the relationship between water & earth.

We are making 4 terraquacolmns to test the effect of different substances in the water.

One will have oil, one with petrol, one with salt, and one control with just plain water.

Lincoln building — Using the boxcutter was scary & fun.

Lincoln drilling — And using dads drill was cool too.

Terraquacolumn — The control. – Water in the bottom, with a rag to allow the soil to draw water up to the seeds.

Adventure Academy

Things settled down once we split them up and in the afternoon I let them play some Adventure Academy, a video game recommended by some home school familes.

Basically, you’re a character at a large school campus. The more lessons you do the faster you level up and earn points to purchase pets, things for your house & different outfits etc.

The lessons are so cool & creative!

One of the biology lessons is about a pilot in a tiny spaceship inside the body of someone called Fred. 😂😂

Each lesson is a different human system, and kids learn by default while looking for a way out of Fred!

Every time they make it out, Fred puts them back in by accident.

Great game and awesome backup for when the kids need a break from each other.
