Day 33

18 November 2021

Fruit Ninja!

Ever played Fruit Ninja?

It’s a video game where fruit fall in front of the screen and using your finger you swipe at the fruit, and it splits in half and falls away. You win points for slashing fruit.

We watched a Mark Rober video today where he played Fruit Ninja in real life with the Guinness Book world record holder for card throwing.

Card throwing is a weapon!!

This guy can split a blueberry.

He splits an olive while it’s in motion! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

You won’t believe what this guy can do!!!

I love how he says, “I can’t throw cards, but I can design & build stuff”.

We all had so much fun watching that video and can’t believe the things Rick Smith Jr. can do.

Crazy insane!

It was timely, because we just bought 3 or 4 packs of cards to learn Blackjack, so we just happened to have lots of brand new, shiny cards to throw.

Lincoln couldn’t help himself.

He tried a few throws. They were pretty woeful. He knew he needed more info. So, we watched the next video where Rick teaches Mark how to throw.

Learn card throwing from the world record holder. The ultimate Fruit Ninja!!

Champ

In true Lincoln style, after watching the basic techniques he was able to do this.

This one stayed in the yard. Lots of cards went soaring into the neighbour’s yard. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Look at that follow through!

Pyjama Day

Mila decided she wasn’t going to get dressed or brush her hair today.

I kept telling her to do her chores and get dressed & start her day, but she wasn’t having any of it.

She’s obsessed with her new Gingerbread maker & began baking right after breakfast.

This little maker is SO good!!

She can use the oven, however as the boys were busy playing cards in the yard, I felt comfortable leaving her alone with her gingerbread maker.

Watching this thing churn out cookies really hit home the success of the McDonalds’ strategy.

Being able to cook something on both sides AT THE SAME TIME is a game changer.

If we had put these in the oven, we would have to wait 15 -20 minutes.

Her little gingerbread maker pumps out cookies in under 3 minutes!

For reasons I don’t know why, she was cooking them one at a time & bringing them in to me.

It definitely added something to the working from home experience. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Mila baking
Mila’s getting really good at baking. She can bake cookies, cakes, scones, all from scratch completely by herself. She’s always converting cups to grams & vice versa. She has a firm grip on fractions.

Always bringing the wacky & zany. That’s our girl. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
Mila is so generous too. This was the very first cookie & she gave it to her mama! ๐Ÿ˜‡
Mila hiding under pillows
I chased her down. “Get dressed!! Get out of your pyjamas & brush your hair!” “No!” She squealed and hid under cushions & then I chased her into her room. (She didn’t get dressed ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Skating

They finally got organised and left for a skate.

Linc has entered a skateboard comp being held at the end of January and he has 5 tricks he wants to master. He can do 3 of them.

Liam’s finally mastered the Ollie. (Lincoln is enormously proud ๐Ÿ˜‚).

Roller Girl continues to add liquid sunshine where ever she goes and is practising moves for her upcoming skate day.

Linc had a stack. So, Dad took a photo ๐Ÿ˜‚

Cafe Time

Yep, after that they hit the cafe. (It was a Dad day after all!).

They ran into our little friend Ezra!! He’s getting so big and makes my baby look enormous!

Baby Ezra
Baby Ezra!
My boy used to be that little. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Surfs Up

Liam snuck off for a surf. When the waves are good, you’ve gotta surf!

Greyhound Hangout

Finally, we met up with a heap of other Greyhound adopters.

The kids LOVED petting all the Greys.

It was more like a dog club than a park play.

When we go to the oval, they all run around like mad. Chasing, & jumping & slobbering on each other.

The Greyhounds may as well have had brandy glasses & smoking jackets. They were like a stuffy group of old chaps standing around discussing world issues.

No doggy shenanigans. Far too sophisticated for that.

Meet Sam & Wolf!
Civilised society. FYI Pepe is the black dog on the left. They are all so alike when you first see them together. Once everyone had met on lead. We took them off lead and it looked much the same as this!

Such a nice chilled out day.

Farm day tomorrow. Whoohoo!!

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.
Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thoughtโ€ฆCool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high waterโ€ฆ.I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
