Day 190

19th September 2022

Snow!

There was a lot to pack, but we finally hit the road.

Linc rode in the car with our friends & their son, & we were on our way, with just our girl.

The trip down was so pretty & we all had that road trip buzz.

As we drove through Jindabyne the afternoon rays shot through the sky and bounced off the lake.

We’d rented a big house.

The kids slept downstairs in a room with bunk beds and were in total heaven. They took every cushion in the house and made pillow forts on their beds. 😍

We adults, sat around the fireplace overlooking the lake, drinking mulled wine. It was so cosy!

The next morning, we set out early and started to see snow on the ground not long after we left Jindabyne.

The Grand Budapest Hotel, was covered in snow! (I don’t know the real name of this hotel, but it always reminds us of the West Anderson movie, of the same name).

The weather forecasted 60cm of snow to fall, over the weekend!!

Blankets of snow weighing down the trees. ❄️❄️❄️

There was so much snow!

We made the long trek to the chair lifts. I hate that walk. I think we all had a meltdown along the way, but that’s pretty much guaranteed, on any snow trip! 😂

It snowed, and snowed, and snowed. The whole mountain was powder!!

There were no icy patches. No hard crusty parts, where the sun & wind had frozen the top layer.

It was all soft, deep powder. Even on the main runs.

Ready for the first run!

The kids’ skiing improved so much, this year.

Linc was beginning to parallel turn and Mila was getting down the mountain really well, without falling much at all.

The boys took off for a while and Mila and I went adventuring through the trees, to the little jumps.

There was so much powder that falling down was so soft, but at times nearly impossible to get back up.

Mila face planted in snow, 2 feet deep. I came to help and fell over while trying to lift her ski out of the snow, which was buried toes first, up to her heel.

We were both stuck deep in snow, like a couple of blueberries on a creamy meringue.

We were laughing so hard, we had no hope of pulling ourselves out.

Eventually, we did manage, and were off again. ⛷️⛷️

This pic was from another fall & I had taken my skis off to rescue her. I couldn’t resist taking this pic. We were both laughing so hard. Mila was such a trooper. She’s so much fun to spend time with.

4 rugged up Butchers!

It snowed the entire time we were there.

As soon as we finished the run, there was fresh snow covering our tracks on the next run.

Visibility wasn’t great all the time, but we could see enough to have fun.

By lunch time, Mila was exhausted. 😂

She posed for this picture and although tired, she was rearing to go again after some hot noodles.

When we got back to the house, we sat around the fire & swapped stories.

All our snow things went into the drying room and the boys (who camped a few weeks ago) commented on what a special luxury this was. 😂

The next morning, we were back on the mountain early.

The weather was a little brighter the next day, with blue sky for parts of the day, but the snow just kept on falling!

We met up at the Sundeck Bar for schnapps and a game of pool, before saying goodbye.

The first day we came to this bar, the band was playing INXS, it was crowded and everyone was buzzing with their snow stories.

It reminded me of a time my best friend and I were snowed in at a mountain bar in Thredbo, due to a blizzard.

We were stuck there for hours!

The juke box was loud & the pool table was crowded. We drank so much vodka we had to go back down on the chairlift. Whenever I hear the song Chic – Le Freak it takes me back! 😂😂

It was such a great weekend.

On the drive home we all decided we want to stay for the season next year and began looking at real-estate.

Today, my muscles hurt with every move I made.

Ouch!

Butterscotch schnapps at high altitude. This one’s for you Sal. 😉

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
