Day 189

15th September 2022

The Big Laze

Linc & Pepe. Too tired and too comfy to do anything.

We had so much fun with our friends last night, but the kids got to bed very late, so this morning, everyone was really sleepy and super lazy.

Even me, who had to be with a client at 7.30am! 😩

When I got home, Linc was finishing his essay and Mila was running around in her pajamas, avoiding all responsibility.

Eventually, she did finish English, but no one completed math’s today. Or history. Or anything else, really.

Other than slime that is. Slime, always gets done.

I got home from work and Mila was up to her elbows, in more slime.

“Mila girl!” I gasped.

“Hi mama.” She answered innocently.

“I thought we said no more slime, until you clean up your mess!!” I said sternly. (Tough mama!)

(There is still slimy mess, in the bathroom AND on the front porch.)

I was washing my hair this morning and had to scrounge around for conditioner, because Mila has used it all, in her slime!

And she used my expensive stuff! Grrrr! 🤬

“This is the last one mum, I promise.” She pleaded. “It’s going in my slime box.” She continued.

I thought I misheard her, but as I turned my head, I saw it.

An enormous pink wooden box.

She opened it up and sure enough, it was full of slime, carefully labelled.

Edible slime, toothpaste slime, white cloud slime, goopy slime and so on.

Our daughter has gone into the slime business!!!

I did make her mop up the mess outside and although she removed the slime things from the bathroom, the vanity is stained from her many craft days. 🙄

Inside the slime box, extravaganza!

I finished my tea, then headed out to see another client.

Wait, I’ve gotten it mixed up.

Mila was still at gymnastics with a friend when I got home after the first client, (thanks Bek!!💗) and Liam and Linc were heading out to get roof racks for the new car, so we could carry the skis. (Nothing like a last-minute job!)

So, when I got home after my second client. I found myself alone in the house.

ALONE IN THE HOUSE!

Yes, another very old reference. 🙄 (Risky Business, circa 1983)

I had a tonne of things to do but, I took 20 min to myself, while eating lunch, to watch some Handmaids Tale!!

Argh! Season 5!

Soon after, it was 3pm and neighborhood kids turned up, to play.

I packed our bags for the snow, made a big pot of Mexican lentils for tomorrow night, and blitzed the house for our house guest, who is staying to look after Pepe.

Soccer was cancelled, so that was one less thing I had to do.

I ordered pizza for all the kids & cracked on.

In exactly 12 hours, we’re GOING TO THE SNOW!!

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
