Day 179

31st August 2022

Ariadne

In history today we learnt about the destruction of the Minoans by the volcanic eruption on Thera (modern Santorini).

However, their minds were still on King Minos and the Minotaur and today they wanted to draw the princess Ariadne, who helped Theseus slay the Minotaur.

Here’s how that went.

Here is Mila’s drawing, she’s not finished with it yet.
Here’s Lincolns picture. We recently discussed tribal body modification & he was fascinated by neck-rings. Poor Ariadne’s head didn’t even make the page. 😂

My Ariadne looks like she has a glass eye or something? Not sure what I did there. 🤔

After this, we did some core work.

Today Mila learnt spelling rule 4 – at the beginning or middle of a word, usually use the K sound before E, I or Y. Use C in front of any other letters.

There are SO MANY spelling rules!

We didn’t have any spelling rules other than something about I before E.

We just had to memorise the words! 😂

Math’s Rap

Today we were looking at area and perimeter.

We went to YouTube for a visual explanation and found the best little rap.

The kids loved it!!

After this we smashed out 3 pages of equations with no stress. 👊🏻

So good!

Next, we needed to figure out how to calculate the area of a triangle and for this we used one of our favourites Math Antics.

It wasn’t as cool as the rap but we like this guy, and he explains things really well.

And yep, we can now calculate the area and perimeter of triangles! Yippee!

Rockclimbing

After our core, we went rock-climbing with some friends.

We haven’t been in AGES!

In true home school form, there were approximately 5 other people in the whole gym and our kids had the run of the place.

We mums, hung out on the tables and had some girl time. So nice.

Later, when we got home the kids had some computer time and I did laundry and watched Making The Cut. So obsessed lately!!

Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
