Day 172

22nd August 2022

RIP

When I went to bed last night, I checked in on the fish and could only find 3 of the four.

So, it wasn’t an enormous surprise when I received a txt at work from Mila, saying Doom was dead.

Oh no!! I thought.

When I walked in the door around lunchtime, they both ran to me and cried.

“Doom’s dead!”  Lincoln declared.

“I know sweetie, I’m so sorry.”  I soothed.

“Daddy killed Sunset!”  Mila wailed.

“Oh.”  I looked over to Liam.  He looked guilty with a big slice of shame.

“I didn’t mean to, I was trying to catch him to clean the tank and I just touched him with the scoop.”

He basically, bludgeoned poor Sunset, against the side of the glass. 😧

I was quickly ushered outside, to see their tiny graves.

Cashflow

They settled back down to their game.  They were playing Cashflow.  A boardgame that teaches financial literacy.

You’re given a job, an income, credit card debt and a mortgage.

Then, you have to move around the hamsterwheel of life, picking up big or small deal cards that give off passive income.  Some deals are good, some are bad and as you buy and sell deals, you have to correct your balance sheet.

Sometimes you pick up ‘doodad’ cards that make you spend money.

The person who’s passive income surpasses their expenses is the winner and then they get to leave the rat race, and enter the fast lane. Next, they have to land on their dream vacation or purchase they chose before the game started, like sail the seven seas in your 50 foot yacht, or buy an island etc.

It’s a game for adults.

I’m always so surprised when they ask to play it and equally surprised at how long they play it for.  They played for almost 3 hours today!

Lincoln won.  Mila second.  Dad last.

Dad talking finance. 😆
Linc adding a 4-plex to his assets and liabilities sheet.

Afterwards they went to the park.

Mila was stoked to find a yellow plane & Linc climbed the trees.  Pretty standard for this little monkey.  He’s been climbing all his life.  From the moment he could crawl, he was climbing!

Next it was the pet shop to buy more fish.

The mourning was done with. 😂

Meet Keisha the goldfish, I can’t remember what Linc called his, and Larry the mollusc.

Tomorrow is a mama day! X

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
