Day 159

3rd August 2022

Liquid Sunshine

Pep, soaking up the rays. ☀️☀️☀️

I was right.

One more solid sleep was all it took, and I’m back!

The sunshine was so dreamy today, I almost forgot about the near century of rain we’ve had.

And yes, I did smash out ALL the laundry!!

The house is a buzz at the moment because the boys are off to the snow for the weekend, and Mila & I are off on a girls weekend.

We’re staying in a hotel with 3 friends & heading out for Teppanyaki.

She can’t believe the chef is going to throw food at us. She says she just doesn’t believe it! 😂

It’s going to be a hair-braiding, junk food eating, up-all-night, giggle fest. 😍😍😍

So, today was a planning day.

We ran all over town getting thermals, etc for the boys.

When we came home, Linc tried it all on.

He jumped out at me from his bedroom like a ninja, all black & clingy.

It was very cute.

We bought a bunch of snacks, and everyone has promised not to get into them before the trip.

Hmmmm, I’ll get back to you on that!

The Andes

In English/Arts today, Linc continued learning about South America.

Today we read an essay on the Andes Mountain range, which is the longest mountain range in the world spanning 7 countries!

Afterwards we answered questions based on how the essay was structured.

We read about the underwater ruins at Lake Titicaca and right away we had to go to YouTube to see more.

The ruins visible through the lake.

We learnt about mummy Juanita; the mummy of a young girl found frozen in the Andes.

She was so well preserved we can still see her hair!

The kids were equal parts amazed and grossed out.

Amazing! Mummy Juanita, was approximately 12-15yrs old when she is believed to have been sacrificed to the gods. 😢

Mila’s lesson had her circle the correct homophone, work on her spelling list & revise spelling rules.

After this they both practiced their times tables.

Lego

Linc finished his Lego car, (actually, he woke me up to this.😂) and Mila finished her amusement park.

Today they continued building with Lego. We have a box that is filled with I’d say, $250K worth of Lego, and as it was out all over the floor, they kind of just kept going with that.

Mila walked me through her entire fun fair.

It was Lincs turn for his annual eye exam today.

More shenanigans with the sunglasses and then a quick change at home for basketball.

Linc is LOVING his basketball!

He scored a basket tonight and was so chuffed. He looked right at us and smiled. He was so proud.

Really nice day today.

Lots of rushing around, but nice never-the-less.

I wish this weather would last forever!

One cool dude.

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
