Day 155

28th July 2022

Raising Dion

I was soooo thankful when my client cancelled this morning, because it meant 2 sleep ins, in a row!!

Apparently, when you’re in your 40’s, you need 2 good night’s sleep to recover from a late night. ๐Ÿ™„

So, this morning Liam and I snoozed well passed 8am. (That’s the equivalent to midday, pre-kids).

I got out of bed, boiled the kettle and went straight for snuggles on the sofa.

The kids are really into this show called Raising Dion.

It’s kinda like Stranger Things, but for kids.

I lay there with them for another hour before finally dragging myself up to go and meet my next client.

Liam headed out for Gymnastics, but was messaged to say it was cancelled.

Covid strikes again. ๐Ÿ™„

So, Dad made a quick pivot and took them fishing.

They didn’t catch anything but enjoyed the drama of it all.

Next, they met some friends at the beach, and build an enormous gunyah.

Lots of wood has come in with the big swell we’ve had lately, and so the Dad’s & the kids got to work.

We’ve built MANY a gunyah in our day, but this one has to be the biggest and best yet, of course.

Dads and their superpowers!

When I got home from work, they still weren’t home, and so I had a little more time to myself.

(More laundry I’m afraid. ๐Ÿ˜ด It’s never ending, honestly!)

They came home just in time for Mila’s eye appointment. I wanted her eye checked out, after her kick to the face incident.

Her black eye is starting to fade.

We checked out the big eye poster, which freaked us out a bit.

Eyes and brains. They’re a bit ew.

Anyway, her eye’s all fine. Vision is great. Come back in 12 months.

Mila looks so much like a young nanna here.
It even looks blobby on the chart. ๐Ÿคข

Afterwards, we couldn’t help ourselves, we just had to try on MANY pairs of glasses. ๐Ÿ‘“๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘“๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ

The eye people were very patient with us. ๐Ÿ˜‚

When you’re a tween, it’s all about cool.
Even with a classic case of hat hair, you gotta love that face! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

We got home from the Optometrist, only to rush out the door again for soccer training. โšฝ

I was just reversing into a space, when Liam txt me to say it too had been cancelled.

There was only one thing to do!

We dialled a pizza and went straight back to the sofa, for more Raising Dion.

Not a lot of core learning today, but I’m really calming down about all of that. (It’s only taken 3 terms!)

So much of their learning is unseen.

I’m fine with it.

Monica has learnt to chill.

Night. x

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thoughtโ€ฆCool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high waterโ€ฆ.I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
