Day 151

22nd July 2022

Farm Day!

The cutest little sausage dog, ever!!

We meet so many animals, now that we’re home schoolers! 🐶🐰🐔🐴🐍🐟🐙

It’s just so special.

The kids get such a high from snuggling up to animals.

From snakes to bunnies, to horses, to doggies and even sitting & watching their fish.

They love it!

Everyone was very excited to get back to the farm today, after being away for the holidays.

Over dinner, (chili & rice😋) I started my questions in the usual way.

“So, what did you ask for at morning circle?”

“Um, I asked for the same thing as Indi. Indi asked for warmth, bunnies, the frisbee game, hiding in the forest, the girls club, & potato.” Mila said eating with great gusto.

[How adorable is that?!!]

“How was the girls club?” I asked excitedly.

“It’s underwater.” Mila said matter-of-factly.

“Oh no!” I said.

“Well, it’s not underwater. It’s like 8 inches deep of mud. I suppose it is just a big pit.” She reasoned.

“We made lamingtons!” Lincoln burst out. (This is his favourite bakery treat).

“Wow! Yum” I said. “You love lamingtons.”

“I know! We had a plate for the cake and a bowl for the chocolate and a bowl for the desiccated coconut and then we all lined up and we put it in the chocolate bowl and then the coconut bowl.”

“They were so delicious!” Mila added.

“Some people just rolled it in coconut.” Linc said.

“Huh, that wouldn’t work.” Mila corrected.

“I mean just chocolate.” Linc replied.

“So, what else happened?” I asked.

“We played frisbee tips in Map 1, then we played another game in Map 2, so the new kids could learn the map.” Lincoln said.

“Oh, that’s a good idea.” I thought aloud.

“There’s home-base as well.” Mila said, all knowingly.

“I got to snuggle up with the bunny on the sofa.” Mila said, curling up in a ball and turning to mush.”

“Yeh, I held a bunny too! His name is Pepper because he’s like a pepper grinder, only he grinds poops!” Lincoln jumped up excitedly.

“How about the chickens, did you hold the chickens?” I said.

“No, they were just free roaming around the shed.” Linc remembered.

“How did your new friends like the farm?” I asked.

“They loved it! They made guns out of wood. I made a double ended knife!” He announced with vigor.

“Cool! Is it finished?”

“No, I’m still working on it.” He replied.

“Lincy was on the tools all day. I hardly saw him!” Mila said.

“Nicholas did his acceptance of disappointment.” Linc said.

“Oh, did he? So, he’s officially a farm kid?” I asked, smiling.

“Yeh, he did good.” Linc replied.

After dinner they met their friends online for game time, and then promptly passed out at 7.30pm.

Sport tomorrow.

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
