Day 146

23rd June 2022

Boyz in the Hood

I snuck out the door for work this morning, just in time for a cuddle with Mila girl, who was sleepy and warm from her bed.

Her soft kisses and tiny arms around my neck melted my heart, and made it hard to leave.

Today was one of her favourite days.

Gymnastics day!

While Mila was at gym, Lincoln & Dad went to shoot some hoops, and ran into some home school friends.

15-year-olds!!

Linc was stoked.

15-year-olds are like rock stars to a 10-year-old. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The Blue Chair

So, I’m constantly telling the kids not to slide around the room on the wheely chairs.

I know right, who cares?

It just makes SO much noise and when they both do it together, I develop a twitch!!

On one of Dad’s days (just saying!) they were sliding around on the chairs and Mila’s tipped over and the back of the chair split in half. ๐Ÿ™„

You should have seen her little face when I got home.

“Sorry mama.” She was barely audible.

“Were you hurt?” I asked.

“I hurt by back.” She whispered in a teeny tiny voice.

Inside I was all, I knew this would happen! But on the outside, I was genuinely sad for her and the huge graze on her back. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Anyway, long story.

Today, they fixed the chair!

Liam has a plastic welder. (Who knew such a thing existed!)

They took delight figuring out this tool, and repairing the chair. ๐Ÿ”ง

So, these little metal pieces complete the circuit which sends through the current and melts the metal to the plastic.

Cleverness!!

Assembling the welder thingy.

I mean circuit. ๐Ÿ™„

Voila!

One fixed chair.

After this, they did some English & Math’s and then had their computer time.

When I got home, I took them to K-Mart because now Lincoln is a basketballer, he needs a size 6 ball and we have a size 7 ball, and this just won’t do!

I didn’t even realise they came in different sizes.

There were literally hundreds of balls at K-Mart, and do you think they had a size 6?

No.

There we were, sat on the floor, working a ball system, throwing them in various display bins looking for the 6?

There was no 6. ๐Ÿ˜ซ

I held up the 5 and the 7 and looked hard. We’re talking about a millimeter of difference.

So, we’re going to hold out for the 6.

Mila bought a little toy thing with the last of her birthday money, that she is dragging out to the bitter end.

Today it was bubble-gum, and a little archaeologist toy which after much soaking, mess and hammering, she discovered gemstones!

She was very excited and took great care to wash them.

Lastly, it was soccer training and then dinner & bed.

Farm day tomorrow!!

First, she soaked.

Next, she hammered. (Stripy top, day 2 ๐Ÿ˜ณ)
Finally, she polished. One happy little geologist! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.
Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thoughtโ€ฆCool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high waterโ€ฆ.I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
