Day 128

27th May 2022

Margaret & Remmy

Today was farm day.

Liam took them & I stayed home for a little ‘me’ time.

“There’s good and bad news, mama.” Mila said.

“Oh no, really. What’s the bad news?” I asked.

“Luna died.” She answered with her head hung low. πŸ˜’

“One got out and one ate some poisonous plants.” Lincoln elaborated.

“I’m so sorry to hear that guys.” I soothed.

“But now we have Margaret and Remembrance!” Mila announced excitedly, poor Luna now seemingly behind her.

“They’re horses!” She gushed.

Pepe loves farm day because of all the new smells. He was sniffing them like crazy today. It must have been Margaret. πŸ˜‚

And can I just say, I’ve never heard such a grown up & dignified name for a horse. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Pizza Oven

We were telling the farmer about our pizza oven, and you know what?

He has an ENORMOUS pizza oven!

It was a beauty, and today they fired it up.

Our kids have now been eating pizza, for 3 days in a row. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ They think it’s heaven!

Look at this monster! That stone is so gorgeous & I bet they weren’t using a pancake flipper like we were. πŸ˜‚

Making the dough is one of the best parts.

In our house, it’s Lincoln that makes the perfect pizza dough.

It’s messy, but totally worth it.

Woodwork

As soon as Linc saw me he proudly held up his something starting with K, (?) a Japanese tool that I can’t remember the name of, and watched my face for a look of wonderment.

“I made this! It took me 3 hours!” He declared.

“I love it, it’s very symmetrical.” I said.

“I used a knife, a plane & a chisel.” He boasted.

“The end broke off. I’m going to make another one. Do you want this one?” He asked.

“I would love it!” I answered, proudly.

I love the tools he brings home. Tonight, I used a spoon he’d made me to scoop the rice from the rice cooker. Wooden utensils have such a good feel to them.

A boy & his tools.

I’m always surprised that he chooses tools over playing with fire as it seems more exciting for his age, but nope, our boy goes for the tools every time.

He loves making things.

Mila told me they played the frisbee game and played on the tramp.

“I got hit in the face again with the frisbee.” Lincoln said with dismay.

“And you laughed, Mila!” He grumbled, suddenly turning stormy.

“I only laughed because of all the places it could have landed and it hit you in the same spot as last time.” She defended herself, but was kind of laughing again. 😬

This didn’t really bode well with Linc, and so we moved on. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚

Confession:

When we were huddled in bed tonight, Linc asked me to register him for school next year.

My heart sunk to bottom of the Mariana Trench. 😞😞😞

He had only said a couple of months ago that he wanted to continue on with home schooling. Now he’s changed his mind.

He misses his friends. (Even though we catch up with them weekly at sports & sometimes after school as well).

Covid’s made it hard to infiltrate the home school community. I feel like we’re only just starting to settle in now, and find our crew of mates.

The trouble is, when you home school, everyone is so far flung. You can’t just have a child over for the afternoon or drop yours off.

The proximity isn’t there.

They have both made friends, but they miss that regular contact.

I need to find some local buddies!

Sports tomorrow.

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.
Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
