Day 127

26th May 2022

Chinese Pictograms

Sorry for the blurry image!

We’re still not doing any written work and so this morning we sat down for history.

Continuing on with ancient China we learnt about Chinese pictograms.

We loved that each symbol was a picture of its meaning.

Then we looked at some symbols & kind of agreed this was true! πŸ˜‚

We went to YouTube and looked up videos of pictograms.

This video came up first on the search list and as it was animated, we went for it. It’s super obnoxious, and for this reason, the kids thought it was hilarious!!

Not because Americans were the target, but because it was so inappropriate. 😬😬😬

Then we watched this one.

When they draw the picture into the symbol, I totally get it. But when its removed, it kind of looks like any of the 3,500 symbols!!

The Body

We were having such a good sofa session, I thought I’d see how far I could push it with another book.

I asked Mila to take another book from our Library stack and she chose The Human Body.

I told them they could have one page each. (Haha, clever mama!)

Mila chose the nervous system and Linc chose the skeletal system.

We read together & had a good 15 min chat about it all.

Then we took Pep for a quick play at the park where we met the cutest little puppy!!!

It was his first time to the park. 😍 He was very cuddly.

Then we headed to gymnastics.

Mila was excited.

Lincoln was not.

He was in a mood because he had to go and watch Mila even though she’s watched years of soccer, both training sessions AND games!

In the end he joined in the class, and everything was fine.

He’s cranky with me lots lately, partly because I won’t let him sell his bed and sleep on a sofa, (he wants more space), and I won’t let him paint his room black. πŸ™„

Oh, and because I won’t let him watch Anime.

It’s become a real bone of contention.

I was letting him at first, but then one day I sat with him for a while when it was on and discovered it is NOT appropriate in any way.

So, now I’m the worst mother in the world. Please hold your applause. 😩😩😩

Is anyone else struggling with Anime?? Urgh. I try to be cool about things, but these shows are not ok!

Pizza!

When we got back from gym, we went straight back to the pizza oven. πŸ˜‹

With more daylight this time we got a fire going and just starting eating.

It didn’t really coincide with any mealtimes; we just ate pizza all afternoon. πŸ˜‚

And marshmallows.

And chocolate pizza. 😍😍😍

When we couldn’t eat another thing, the kids disappeared inside for a bath & I found myself with a moment of aloneness, (yep, real word) and the fire warmed me, & I looked up & the sky was a rainbow, & I sat in that moment & felt completely content.

Farm day tomorrow. x

Chocolate pizza!! πŸ˜πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹
This took about 10 minutes to cook. Crunchy & delicious. Oh my goodness, we were so full.

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.
Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
