Day 124

23rd May 2022

The Essay

Jerry Seinfeld could have written a TV episode from the drama it took to get this essay written.

I know, I know!

Why did I insist he do this today?

I don’t know.

We always skip the essay questions because Lincoln HATES to write. When he does write, his words are beautiful.

I don’t know why, I just wanted him to do it & the previous lessons included all the research work, which he had done.

All he had to do was write it up!

Urgh.

It was an epic 25 minutes of debate and protest.

In the end, he got it completed and he did a great job.

I’m going to tick off essay writing for the year!

The essay was on the benefits of optimism – How ironic!

Sugar Crystal Lollipops

Next, they made sugar crystal lollipops.

We learnt that each granule of sugar is made of trillions of sugar molecules held together in a regular pattern.

When you mix sugar with water, the sugar molecules break apart to mix among the water molecules, forming a solution.

When the sugar molecules collide with the sugar granules they coat the skewer, and as more and more molecules stick, your lollipop grows!

They went a little too heavy on the food colouring to actually watch the lollipop grow, so for us, it’s more like checking lobster traps.

Solar Power Robot

Mila built this little dinosaur robot that runs on solar.

It didn’t work for some reason. (No sun maybe! 😂)

So, she had the idea of snipping the wires and connecting them to a regular battery instead.

We’ll be working some more on this one tomorrow.

Dad’s Makeover

So pretty!

Mila had a friend over on the weekend and they were doing fashion shows, which was hilarious!!

They would call out the style and then parade down the hallway and into the lounge room.

“Royal Princess!” They would shout, and then out they’d come in ball gowns & tiaras and clomp along in my heels.

“Dads!” They said, and out they came scratching themselves and holding their backs, and in their best man voice begin maoning,

“Oh, my back hurts. I’ve got a headache!” 😂

They were scratching so much it looked like they had fleas. 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, at some point they got into my makeup and so today Mila wanted to give Liam a makeover.

She laughed the whole way through it.

Mila’s turn!

In the end though, she wasn’t happy with her look.

She wanted something more colourful.

Mila did not enjoy the ‘less is more’ lecture Dad was giving.

I thought Liam did a great job!

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
