Day 118

13th May 2022

Big Day

The Magic Faraway Tree

Lincoln & Mila walked inside from their day at the farm and collapsed in my arms.

“Mama!” Said Mila, like she’d just run a marathon.

“I want a hug too.” Linc joined in.

They both clung to me on the step.

I kissed their heads & smelt the farm. The smoke, the dirt, the grass, the animals & their youth, filled my nostrils all at once.

I was on my way out to take Pepe for a run, so their stories would have to wait.

At dinner time, they sat at the table slowly moving food around their plates. Neither of them were hungry and their eyes were bleary.

They were SO tired!

“So, what happened today? Any stories you want to share?” I asked.

“We looked for the baby alpaca.” Mila said.

“But when we found her she was still pregnant.” She continued.

“We played Mississippi and I came tied first with little Tom.” Mila went on.

“I got 70 jumps in!”

“I made Jim & Jade my poles as I ran around them.” She said.

“I was a surfer, and a toaster!” She was up now on her feet demonstrating. Expelling her last bit of energy.

“Oh, and we went to the Magic Faraway Tree!” She said.

“How far did you climb today?” I asked.

“About 4 meters.” She said.

“I climbed 5 meters.” Linc finally joined in.

“But Charli climbed the highest. She climbed 50 meters.” Lincoln said matter-of-factly.

“Last time she climbed through the canopy.” Mila remembered.

“I got my own chicken.” Lincoln said.

“Oh cool!” I said. “Did you carry it around with you all day?”

“Yeh, I called it Midnight. It has a spot on one side of its face.” He said drawing me a picture.

“Did you do any cooking today?” I asked

“We made damper.” Lincy said.

“Did you fill it with honey again?” I quizzed.

“No, there was no honey today. We had lots of melted butter.” He continued.

“I like mine burnt & crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. But not too gooey or I feel sick.”

“I can’t eat any more.” He said and he left the table.

“Me neither.” Said Mila, and she came over and put her head on my shoulder.

Liam and I sat chatting for 15 min before we realised, they weren’t coming back.

They had both taken themselves to bed!

No good night, no books, no snuggles.

We checked in on them and they were sound asleep! 😴😴😴

And that was that.

Oh, & Liam found more mushrooms. Our freezer is full!

Sports tomorrow.

Night. x

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
