Day 108

29th April 2022

The Fringe

“Mama, take my picture!”

Every time we go to the hairdressers Mila asks for a fringe.

I get it.

I’ve always wanted one too, thanks to Brigitte. (No, not Jones. The other one).

Brigitte Bardot, we 💗you!

Every time I go, the hairdresser always says the same thing.

“You won’t suit a fringe sweetie, your forehead is too small.” 😭😭😭

Sob, sob. Sniff, sniff.

So, I never get one.

Mila likes to practice her fringe in the mirror sometimes, by clipping up her hair. 😂

Then we take a regular pic to compare.

Cutie!!

I was busy at work when farmer Jim sent me a video message.

Home haircuts were happening at the farm!

And Mila wanted a fringe! 😁

I had to say yes, right?

I was nervous, but it was her choice.

In the end it was pretty tame. A little framing around the face.

She would have been in heaven with the ‘big girls’ fussing over her. 🥰

“So how was the day, guys?” I asked excited to hear their news.

“I got hit in the lip with a frisbee and hit on the head with a Katana.” Linc said flatly.

“Oh no, show me.” I replied.

His swollen little pout was so cute!!

“Oh, it looks ok. Just a graze.” I soothed.

“We’d just won the frisbee game and I turned around and cheered and it hit me right in the face.” He was up on his feet acting it out.

“It was the perfect shot.” He said impressed.

“How about morning circle?” I asked. “What did Mila ask for, the waterfall?”

“Yeh she waterfalled.” Linc said with a smirk.

“What did you ask for?”

“Katana’s, carbs & forging. Because I only go to the farm for those things.” He announced.

“We made damper Mum!” Mila said jumping up and down. (She calls me mama less & less 😒)

“It was our carbs.” Linc said.

“I love damper! Did you eat it with lots of jam?” I asked.

“No, first we made a long worm, then wrapped it around sticks then cooked it in the fire and then we pulled it off and squished the bottom and filled it right up to the brim with honey!” Mila said delighted.

“Yeh, with lots of butter.” Linc added.

“We hung out in the cargo net.” Said Mila.

“Really, a cargo net. Is it hung up in the trees?” I wondered.

“Uh-huh.” She replied.

“How high is it?”

“About 5 meters.” She answered.

“Oh, that would have been fun. Did you just hang out up there?” I said.

“Yeh, and I hung upside down from my knees.” She says proudly. “I was the only one, oh and Zali did it too.”

Meanwhile

Liam was out mushroom foraging and bought back a whole box of pine mushrooms and made the most beautiful risotto!!

Magic mushrooms are EVERYWHERE!!

Ghost mushrooms – if you eat them, you’ll become a ghost because they’re highly poisonous.

Tomorrow’s the start of the season for winter sport.

Our Saturday morning sleep ins are officially on pause.

At 8am. We will be courtside. 😴

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.

Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
