Day 187

13th September 2022

Cyclops

We had a lazy morning today and started with history on the sofa, in pyjamas.

We read the story of Odysseus and how after his triumph at the battle of Troy, he thanked the gods for their protection and set sail for home.

However, he forgot to thank Poseidon, the god of the sea. Poseidon was enraged and created furious seas, that forced Odysseus to take shelter on an island.

On the Island they found a giant, strong beast, with one eye.

Cyclops!

Afterwards, we went to our sketch pads.

First, they both looked around Google, for inspiration.

I love their pictures! They did such a great job!!

Mila’s drawing.
Linc’s drawing.

Core

We put our drawings away and I made them a smoothie, while we began our core learning.

More spelling for Mila, along with homophones and reading.

Linc worked on his persuasive writing piece on Patagonia.

For maths, Mila worked on diagrams, graphs & number ordering.

Linc worked on the last pages of perimeter and area and somehow, we laughed our way through determining square roots.

Math’s is so hilarious, lately!

Basically, I try to tell him something. He looks at me like I’m a dinosaur, and then scribbles something so fast and so foreign to me, along with the correct answer! 😂

I didn’t get one word in today, he just kept shooshing me!

Mila’s maths.

After maths, Mila made blueberry muffins!

They were sooooo good! We ate them hot, straight out of the oven. 😋

Dad came home for lunch and we sat around with a cup of tea, before he left again, to meet his next client.

The kids played basketball outside for a while and then decided they wanted to make dioramas. 🤷‍♀️

The hunt for boxes was on. All the craft things came out and they got busy making their dioramas.

Mila was here. 😩

Then, Mila wanted to make more slime!!!

She made so much mess. AGAIN! (She also made perfume and anyone who walks through our door gets a spritz. Wanted or not).

Our daughter is a tornado of mess! 😩

By now, school was out and kids turned up for drama and basketball.

I quickly blitzed the house and was out the door.

We had a good learning day today.

Maths, English, history, drawing, cooking, creating, playdates & sport.

13 days of writing to go!!

Night. x

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
