Day 165

11th August 2022

Haminations

Haminations have taken over our house at the moment!

A 20-year-old American animator and comedian, has a YouTube channel called, Haminations.

They’re a collection of short stories from his life, that he’s animated and recorded funny voiceovers.

Clever, right?!

He has a great sense of comedy and even though I haven’t liked a couple of things I’ve seen, it’s rated 12+ and so I told Linc he’s ok to watch it. (I was awarded an epic hug for this).

The cool thing though, is that Lincoln is suddenly ALL about animation!!

Will he make an animation?

I don’t know.

Will he drop it in a few days’ time?

I don’t know.

(Although I hope not, because he just ran my credit card for a tonne of software!)

The point is, he’s inspired and it’s all coming from him.

He chose the subject, he figured out the software & he’s sitting down to ‘work’ without needing any prompting.

He was still in his pajamas when he began working on his avatar.

Mila joined him on the floor at the sofa (🙄 even though both tables were cleared and available?!) and they drew for almost an hour.

A little later it was time for gymnastics and Linc took the laptop and went through the animation tutorials.

I love it when they really throw themselves into something.

It’s amazing to watch. So focused!!

English/Maths

After gym, we worked on English and Math’s.

Linc continued with his Peru research and Mila worked on spelling her list of tricky words, homophones, & comprehension.

Then some more practice on the times table app.

Today Mila learnt the trick with the nine’s.

If the sum is 9 x 4 for example, the first number of the answer is one less than 4, so it’s 3. The second number of the answer is 9 – 3 which is 6. So, the answer is 36!

This pattern can be repeated up to the nine. 9 x 8? Easy, it’s 72!

When Mila learnt this her confidence grew. She’s still learning the smaller groups and so being able to calculate nines in her head was a huge boost!

Henry VIII

When we sat down for lunch, we watched a video from the Oversimplified series on Henry VIII.

We’ve watched it before, but they really wanted to watch it again.

Fine by me!

It’s super funny.

Anything by Oversimplified is always done really well.

We finished for the day after this video.

The kids played some video games and then, after school got out, some neighbourhood kids came over to play.

I did a mountain of folding & the kids helped put it away.

We’re all very excited because Liam come’s home from the snow tonight!!!!

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.
Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
