Day 136

8th June 2022

French Toast

It started with French toast. πŸ˜‹

The sun streamed in and we sat there marvelling at fried bread. πŸ˜†

I hadn’t planned to do too much today but we ended up doing quite a lot!

First, we did our core. English/Arts & Math’s games online.

After some grammar Linc was due to complete an art exercise (which he loves to skip as he’s gone off art lately) but it was only small, and so I made him complete it.

It was a watercolour, which we haven’t done a lot of.

Mila had to have a turn too, of course, and so here are our cherries.

Lincoln’s Cherry. (Sorry, that focus is terrible).
Mila’s cherry.

Mila worked on her word mountains and then we took Pepe for a walk around our hood.

Greyhounds don’t have an undercoat which is why they need their coats on in Winter, & today was the first day Pepe wore his.

How cute is he in his little coat!! 😍😍😍

He came to us in this one, but we’ve just been online looking at some stripy PJ’s. πŸ˜†

We played at the park for a while and then we had to run some errands in town.

We dropped Pepe home, settled him in with some Attenborough and headed straight back out.

Each week we borrow a heap of books from the library, and Liam and I read to the kids throughout the week.

We can cover a lot of ground just by reading, and they love snuggling close for book time.

When we arrived at the library, they wanted to slide the books we were returning, down the return chute, which is outside.

Usually, we just take them in to the desk but today, they decided to TORPEDO them down the chute, one book at a time.

We probably had 8 or so books.

So, they’re laughing away, as Lincoln smacks the book into the metal bucket, and then Mila launches it down she chute with the handle.

I took their picture and loved that something so simple, gave them so much joy.

Then, it happened.

We walked inside, and every head in the library, was staring at us! 😱😱😱

The chute does NOT go into the deep, dark bowls of the library, as I naturally assumed, but in fact goes just inside the front door, into a metal tub that makes a very loud bang, when books are deposited down the chute.

I tried to be cool, but inside I was 50 shades of mortified!!

We went straight to the back of the library and while the kids were oblivious to it all, I tried to evaporate.

Mila quickly found a book on origami and got to work.

Linc found some books by Bear Grills and sat down for a read.

I grabbed a handful of books and then, we got the hell out of there. 😳

Mila’s sting ray – she’s a clever little button.

Right, after the library we went for a fresh juice.

Not at home where we have an entire orange tree FULL of oranges and a juicer.

No, we went to the machine, and paid upwards of $10, just so we could watch the machine.

They’ve been here many times, but they love it.

Lincoln proceeded to tell me exactly how it was working while we watched it squeeze our juice. (STEM, tick!)

I asked them to stand in front of the tree for a picture. They were so shy about it! πŸ˜‚

I was famished by this point, but I promised Mila we would go to the netball courts and practice shooting, before the game this weekend.

So, off we went with our juice to shoot hoops.

Up, up…..

She shoots, she scores!! (Yes, our netball could use some air!)

And yep, this goal is too high for her age group.

They’re usually half this high but at the new playing fields it’s a one height fits all set up, so the young ones just have to throw it higher!

We finally came home and ate like ravenous bears.

I had some things to do, and so I told the kids that was it.

Day over.

Go and play.

Mila went straight to her origami book and Linc began his new novel.

It was very civilised!

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
