Day 130

31st May 2022

Monica’s Morning

I needed to tick boxes today.

The Monica in me sprang to life and I lead the day like a drill sergeant. 🪖

We started with pancakes.

Then I told them how it was going to go down.

English & then a math’s test.

They stared at me. 😬

“I need to know where we’re falling down and what we need to focus on.” I said ignoring their faces as I chopped banana.

Lincoln was first at the table for English. (Can you believe it, another essay!! Luckily, no fuss today).

Then Linc went to play Math’s games online and it was Mila’s turn for English.

Reading about the artist Raphael & editing text. (And yes, a toasted cheese sandwich does improve focus & a desire to learn). 😉

Reading poems.
Reviewing nouns, verbs & adjectives.

The test. Lincoln Math’s, Mila English.

The kids have found these great educational games. (That they actually enjoy!)

The platform is called Poki.

There’s lots of game’s but the one they like is called Shape Fold.

They have to unfold the shapes that have limited movement in order to reveal a picture, & the pictures get harder and harder as you go along.

Here’s the link. https://poki.com/en/g/shape-fold-nature

Then there’s another one called Mosaic Puzzle Art where they have to count the hexagons & match the shape.

Oh, and Lincoln discovered Stick Man Hook today and he really enjoyed playing that.

Dog Park

We rugged up and took Pep to the park for a run.

There was a tiny Kelpie pup, only 16 weeks old that Lincoln was playing with. They chased each other around the park all morning.

Mila befriended a little mini foxy-cross-something.

She was a cutie, but it was her first time to the park and she was very nervous.

Pepe didn’t make things easier by trying to eat her every time she came out from between her owner’s legs. 😩

It was a bit awkward, but the guy was really nice.

Kylo Wren the Kelpie pup!
Kylo kept chasing him and biting him on the feet. Linc loved this!
I forget the mini foxies name, but she wouldn’t leave this podium.
Mila just received a very big face lick!

Pool

How’s the serenity.

When you home school, you pretty much inherit your own indoor heated pool.

There’s never anybody here and we can use as much hot water as we like! 😎

Today we worked on diving and then of course, they had a race.

It was so close!!

After the pool, they spent a good 20 minutes in the shower, indulging in the hot water, and then we went home to watch some TV.

Linc had a mate over after school and Mila went to her friend’s place.

It was a really nice day.

Although, I wish this wind would sod off.

Fire, flood, Covid, plague of mice, rain & landslides & now gale force winds?

Sheesh!

The Challenge: Home school for 1 year while not losing sanity or love for children and/or husband.
Contenders: Mila 8yrs, Lincoln 10 yrs, Me (Mum), Liam (Dad), Pepe (dog)
Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
