Day 123

20th March 2022

TWEEN

10 years, 10 months old.

At 10 years and 10 months old, we are noticing BIG changes with our boy.

He’s not a little primary kid anymore.

But he’s definitely not a teenager either.

Where on earth are we?

We’re in Tweenland!! 😦

I hit up the internet for answers.

Apparently,

Tweens can be a challenge to parents and teachers. One minute they can be sweet and loving, the next they can be moody and difficult.

We can definitely tick that one. βœ”οΈ

This is a time of immense psychological and physiological change and as such, we see evidence of emerging maturity mixed with flashes of temper that seem younger.

They sound the same so let’s tick that one too. βœ”οΈ

I turned to my old faithful when it comes to parenting advice, Maggie Dent.

Basically, as boys begin their journey to manhood, we’re supposed to not sweat the small stuff, use less words, show love & support with physical actions like making endless toast & cooking lots for them & their friends & being mum taxi without complaint.

Ah, ok. I’ll give it a try. 😬

Our little man, in the making. πŸ’—

Farm Day

Today was our day at the farm.

I’d love to show you lots of lovely pictures from the farm, only my husband and farmer Jim have become mates and so the only pictures I got today from both men, were of MUSHROOMS!!

Liam stayed at the farm for a while and as Linc is all about the tools lately, they made a dagger. 😎

Linc wasn’t really keen on staying at the farm today, so he went with Liam for some Dad time.

He knows what this means.

Food!

Not just food from the lunch box I packed.

Junk food!

Dad took him for a burger & fries and a chocolate chip muffin.

Then, they hit the epic charity shop where Linc bought some trainers & Liam bought an outboard motor for the boat, because you know, engines and stuff. πŸ™„

After that, they went to the forest to look for mushrooms.

Making the dagger.
“Look at my wood chip!”
The forest was SO cold, but Dad’s jacket helped.

Later, I asked Mila about her day.

“What did you ask for at morning circle?” I asked.

“Hugs, warmth & carbs.” She declared. 😍😍😍 Seriously, what a sweetheart.

“That’s what she got too. The big girls were giving her cuddles & she was loving it.” Liam said.

“What did you eat?” I asked.

“Bread rolls with mashed potato & cheese.” She said.

“Oh, and I ate my vegan cheese off my sandwich and then Jade gave me real cheese!” She laughed.

” Cheeky! Then what happened?” I asked.

“The cow got out and Zali, Indi & I had to go and find it.” Mila said.

“I found the cow.” Liam said. “I came out of the house, and it was standing right there with enormous horns. I was too scared to walk past it.” He went on.

“Are you serious?” I said, laughing.

He immediately picked up his phone and said, “Cows are responsible for 22 deaths a year!! And that’s just in the US alone.”

I was crying with laughter. I told him this was going on his permanent record!

Mila said she and the girls got the cow back where he needed to be (no help from Dad πŸ˜‚) and she’s also planned a play date with the girls on Sunday at noon. πŸ€”

“You’re 8 Mila. You can’t plan playdates. You don’t even drive!”

She jumped on me and demanded the playdate.

Our little family is changing.

Boys to men and girls becoming independent and organised.

I suppose it’s time to start stepping back. 😭

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
