Day 113

6th May 2022

Farm Day!

The kids need to leave the house early on farm day, which means I get a full 40 min to myself to get ready for work.

It’s not much, but if you know the story ‘A Squash & A Squeeze’, you’ll know that 40 minutes is pure heaven.

I swan around, occasionally talking to the dog.

I eat breakfast without answering one question!

I put my makeup on without someone elbowing me out of the way to reach into the drawers.

It’s a little bit of me time. Every Friday.

Yes, I know how lame that sounds! 😂

But when you’re a home-schooling mama, alone time is precious.

Time stands still. 🥰

When they came home, I was greeted with bear hugs and kisses.

“How was your day?!!” I asked excitedly.

(Liam looked shattered, something about lots of bickering on the drive home). 🙄

“It was fun!” Mila cried. “They have 55 baby chicks!”

“What? Wow!” I replied amazed.

“We had a chick race!” She continued.

“Cool. How did your chick go?” I asked.

“Oh, mine didn’t win. It had poop half sticking out of its butt and stopped for about 20 minutes.” She went on. 😂

“Toby won; his chick is called Guy Jeff”. Mila continued.

“Do they all have names? All 55 chicks?” I asked.

They stared at me.

“No mama.” She answered. “We only named a few.”

We went upstairs and later over dinner they told me everything.

“Mila what did you ask for at morning circle, the waterfall?” I asked.

“Mum, it was 12 degrees!” Lincoln said flatly. (Gosh, sorry almighty tween!)

“I asked for chicken race, bunnies and Mississippi.” Mila answered.

‘How about you Linc?” I asked.

“I asked for weapons.” He said. “I’m there for weapons and carbs.” He continued. 😂

“I made a knife!” Linc said. “I went to the forging area and found some metal. I drew the outline and cut it out with a saw.” He continued with enthusiasm. “It took me about 2 hours!”

“2 hours?” I asked

“No power tools. I did it with a hacksaw.” He said.

“Oh, that would have taken you ages.” I agreed.

“After a while, Jim helped me with an angle grinder.”

“Did you finish it with the angle grinder?” I asked.

“No mum. You don’t give an angle grinder to a 10-year-old!”

“Oh, so you admit there are some things you are too young for!” Haha! I had him.

He smiled knowing that one was mine. (Lately, I can’t tell him anything or show him anything. He knows it all! I thought that came at 13?)

“Indie and I picked the long grass and we made Luna a nest.” Mila said finally getting a word in.

“Did you! Where was Zali, did she play too?” I asked.

“Oh, Zali is chicken girl. She had 5 chickens on her! She had one on her head, one in her jumper, one under each arm. She loves chickens!” Mila laughed.

“We dug up potatoes in Zali’s veggie garden, too.” Mila said. “Purple ones.”

“Really, that’s so cool. What size were they? Big ones like the size of an orange?” I asked.

“They were the size of an orange but the shape was different.” She informed me.

“We tried to make a smoke bomb.” Linc said.

“Yeh, but we didn’t have any ping pong balls. You need ping pong balls for the smoke.” He continued.

“Then Daddy came, and we played ‘bounce butt bounce’. Mila said.

I tried to understand the rules to this but all I understood was it’s a trampoline game. 😂

Chick race! 😂

Meanwhile

You guessed it. Liam was getting his foraging fix in the forest!

Cool gunyah.

I would LOVE a sleep in tomorrow, but that will not be happening.

Netball, bright and early! 🌸

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
