Day 51

14th December 2021

5.30am

Lincoln woke me at 5.30am, for a snuggle! 😮

Urgh! I was so tired, my eyes were gritty and sore.

I worked until midnight and was looking forward to a sleep in. At least until 7am!

I opened the door for Pepe to go outside. Instead, he moved beds and went back to sleep.

Greyhounds – the 60 mile an hour couch potato.

I made a smoothie and Mila quickly sidled up to me and mooched at least half of it. (Even though she’d been up for hours and could have easily made her own).

I went for a shower and who should turn up? Lincoln.

“Never a dull moment with Lincoln” he says with a smirk, as he edges me out of the warm water.

Some days, being a mum is hard.

I’m sure all of this is adorable when you’re eyeballs aren’t hanging out of your head, but today it was not adorable.

They dragged their feet getting ready for our playdate at the park and I was literally stomping on the spot, and through clenched teeth uttering,

“Please put your shoes on, now!”

The Park

We went to my favourite park.

The sun was shining and the morning stress began to melt away.

The mamas sat around and talked and the kids played, and the morning disappeared.

They took turns dragging the billy cart up the hill and zooming down.
The crazy jumping shoes!
I really should have taken a video of this. It’s hilarious watching them run in these boots.
Mila in her new jacket she bought yesterday. “Mama pah-leeeease can I have it?!! It’s silk!!” 😂

Take 3 For The Sea

While we were at the park the bin man came and we all noticed the advert on the side of his truck.

Take 3 for the sea!

Since Ocean School, we are much more aware of rubbish when we see it on the ground.

I loved that the kids noticed this and pointed it out.

Audible

When we got home, I was exhausted.

Still groggy, from my late night and early wake up.

I put the kettle on. Flopped on the sofa and put on our audible story.

We’ve been listening to Harry Potter (did I say this already? I’m so tired).

I lay there in a daze, completely forgot about my tea, and listened to Harry’s adventures at Hogwarts.

Audible is a LIFESAVER when you’re tired.

Better than TV as you don’t even have to suffer the noise, if you give them ear buds.

I dragged myself off the sofa to re boil the kettle and make some more tea.

I told the kids they could watch a movie & I went to lay down before soccer.

My lower back was killing me. (My body’s lovely way of telling me, my cycle is on it’s way).

I got a message from a friend asking if I could take their boys to soccer as the game was early today.

EARLY! Noooooo! 😫

I looked at the time.

No time for a rest. We had to leave for soccer in 20 minutes.

I went to tell the kids soccer was early today & they needed to get ready.

They were melted onto the sofa like slices of cheese. (There was no way they were going to be ready in 20 min).

Somehow, we made it to soccer and when I came home, crawling up the stairs with some serious back pain, Liam had dinner on the table. 😍😍😍

Lentil dahl with cucumber yoghurt & dosa bread. Heaven!

Peanut Butter Cookies

I don’t know how she had it in her, but after dinner Mila launched into a batch of peanut butter cookies and had them in the oven before I could even protest that it was too late for baking.

Before I knew what was happening, I was eating one with a cup of tea. Delicious! (One for the cookbook!)

Tired Mama

Today was nice, but it was hard because I was tired.

It wasn’t them, they didn’t do anything out of the ordinary. I just couldn’t manage them well, because I was tired.

It was me.

When the kids were babies, and they went down for a nap you had anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes before they woke again, and you could choose one of 3 things.

  • Food
  • Shower
  • Sleep

You only have time for one.

Keep in mind, you stink, you’re so tired you’re stumbling into walls, and your stomach is in knots because you’re so hungry.

You can choose one. (Husbands at work & won’t be home until well after midnight. There’s no one to help).

What do you choose?

For me, it was always sleep.

I can do anything if I’m not tired.

How about you? What do you choose?

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
