Day 26

9th November 2021

4.30am Start 😫

The day started at 4.30am.

Liam woke to find Linc playing videos games & eating ice-cream.

We used to have this problem a few years ago when we had a Play Station. We would find him at all hours of the night, 1.30am, 3am, whatever; playing video games!

So, we sold it.

After that, Lincoln slowly went back to a normal wake up time. (Normal for him, anyway. 5.30am!)

Every homeschooling family we’ve met, have has said their kids have daily, scheduled free time, to play video games. So I thought, ok I can do that.

Now, we’re back to early starts and sneaking again!! Sigh.

Bush Picnic

Picnic

We took Pepe out early then hit the road to meet some home school friends at a bike track in the bush.

It was SO nice, and just what I needed.

Some girl time in the sun, while the kids ran free through the bush.

They rode bikes, they played tips, they voted to decide which games to play, (very orderly, & not like school) & we mamas, picnicked.

It was a little slice of bliss.

I always come away feeling so calm after talking with other home school mums.

My home school friend said, they are taking a break from learning because they are just so far ahead and are learning so much!!

Can you believe that?

My two are a couple of blobs that don’t want to do anything & she has two that NEED TO SLOW DOWN!

Unbelievable. 🤔

Anyway, it gives me hope that after Lincoln & Mila de school, they will be inspired to get hooked on a topic.

Riding bikes
cicada
We found loads of cicadas!
Puppy
And this pokey little puppy named Boo ate them all! And we saw a wild bunny!
It would have been a shame to have gone to school & missed this sun drenched spot by the track! 😎

The Meltdown

We said goodbye and came home.

I was really sleepy and went to lay down for a nap.

Lincoln had finished all his chores and was having some TV time.

Mila hadn’t don’t her chores and so I said she couldn’t watch TV until she had done them.

She didn’t have much to do. She had to make her bed & pick up a few things in her room.

That’s when she lost her mind.

Out of nowhere, she exploded!

“I can’t make my bed!! My duvet is too heavy, and I can’t lift it. Every night I’m freezing because it falls off the side and I can’t lift it up!”

“Mila, I’m sure you can lift it up and make your bed.”

‘NO I CAN’T!” (Storm out. Door slam.)

I drifted off to somewhere between sleep and awake.

She marched back in.

“You don’t believe me, and you won’t let me watch TV & Lincoln gets everything. You’re being mean!!”

This went on for a bit until finally, she collapsed onto me, and half passed out while moaning about justice.

I told her that the feelings she was having might be due to the amount of chemicals and colourings and sugar and additives that were raging around her tiny body.

She didn’t say anything.

Lincoln came in & flopped on the bed.

“I’m so tired. I feel full and sick. I’m tired.” He complained.

“But you two have soccer in 40 minutes.” I declared.

“Urrrgh.” Groan, groan, whinge, whinge.

They managed to get through soccer and when we came home, they made their own dinner.

Along with eating whatever they want this week, they’re also allowed to refuse meals.

Do you know what they did?

They both got chopping boards and began chopping vegetables!

Lincoln said,

I need broccoli!

Mila began chopping capsicum.

They made themselves a fresh bowl of vegetable/noodles, when they could have had anything else.

We asked them how they were feeling. What made them want vegetables?

“They’re so good. There’s nothing else in the world I want!” Lincy cooed.

“I need broccoli! I just need it.” Mila insisted.

Then Dad dropped another bombshell. (Even for me!)

Great, because next week we are doing a week of NO sugar!

“GASP!!!”

I think we may have fast tracked the kids beginning to cook the family meal! 😂
Broccoli Noodles
These noodles were SO good!! He ate the lot!
Mila ate all of hers too! I think we can safely say this experiment was a win.

Home School Days: 200

This blog was inspired by the film Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep & Amy Adams.

Julie decides she will take her love of cooking to the next level by cooking every recipe in Julia Childs French cookbook, in one year! 500 & something fancy, technical recipes!! While working full time!

Julie writes a daily blog about her time in the kitchen for herself & other amateur cooks who may, or may not be, reading along. You gotta watch it (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/about/).  Or read it here. (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/book)

I loved that she wrote every day. I loved hearing about her small everyday frustrations, with the recipes & with life. It really inspired me to throw myself into something.

The timing was perfect as we have just decided to homeschool our children as a lifestyle choice and I thought…Cool! A daily blog will be perfect!

There must be other families out there wondering if there’s another way to live? Another way to do ‘family life’?

If you’re here, then hello & welcome aboard! Please feel free to sit back & watch it all unfold. Put the kettle on & check in with us each night to see what went down and how we all got over the line. I’m sure we’ll find our rhythm, right?

Are you a homeschool family? If you’re watching the wheels fall off this thing, I’m open to your emails or comments any time. I would love them! I am very friendly, & I could use the help.

Ok, come hell or high water….I’m in. A daily blog, for 12 months. I’ll be right, here.

Kindly, Lisa x

Can we be friends?!
