Day 14
22 October 2021
Mum! Birds!
AGAIN!!
Today was another crazy wake up, just days after the last one.
I thought she said “Bone!” Because Pepe tries to sneak his big, bloodied bone into the house and chomps on it in his bed.
It’s gross & he’s not allowed to do it.
I was dead asleep, π΄ so I thought, if Pepe’s got his bone in the house, well he can have it. I’m not moving.
This time she screamed it louder,
“MUM! BIRDS!”
I jumped out of bed and ran to the loungeroom, where there were 2 black birds, as big as sweet potatoes, in a frenzy flapping about the house.
Pepe, foaming at the mouth with excitement giving chase.
The kids are rushing about, chaos everywhere, and then it happened.
He got one.
Maybe 200 feathers at least, tiny black, downy feathers exploded into our living room! π² π²π²
There were so many feathers I thought he had killed it, but as Pepe began to choke on the fluffy feathers, I saw the bird was ok and flapping for his life.
FAR OUT!!
I managed to get Pepe out and capture the birds with a tea towel and free them out the window.
I looked around, and the whole place was covered in feathers!
And bird crap on the sofa! π©
I tried to vacuum but the feathers were so tiny and soft they just kept flying up over the vacuum as it ran close to them.
Urgh.
It took me ages to clean up.
“Are you going back to bed mama?” Asked Mila.
My heart was racing. There was no way I was going to be able to fall asleep.
“No baby. I’m up”
It was 6.30am.
Welcome to Friday.
Mural & Sunflowers
We had a nice breakfast together. Mila hogged my porridge on the sofa and then we took a bath & got ready for the day.
Thanks to the bird fiasco we were up and out in the garden by 7.30am and working on our mural.
Linc wasn’t too interested. He was practicing skate tricks on the tramp.
Mila was keen on drawing mushrooms in Tiddalick’s habitat and began with that.
I received a care package from my work a few weeks ago and inside were some sunflower seeds. We decided we should plant them around the tramp.
We’ll get them started in egg cartons first and then transfer the ones that come up into the earth.
We read all about when to plant, how far to space them, how much sun they need, how long until they germinate, and we noticed that this information was written in words and shown in pictures.
We are looking forward to having King Sunflowers by Summer. π»π»π»π»π»π»

The BIG Map!!
You won’t believe what happened next!
We finished the BIG map!
I got it out & said, “Hey, let’s finish our big map so we can mark it with our holiday spot.” (We’re planning our Christmas holiday & we’ve been talking about lots of different places.)
They just got into it.
They were so motivated today.
I think once the big map began to really take shape, it became exciting!
We finally finished!!
This is the first step in the ‘A is for Australia Unit’ from ‘Simply Home School’ (http://thehomeschoolyear.com/Simply%20Home%20School). It was a huge challenge!

Park Time
Liam came home from his surf, and they went straight out to the park with Pepe for some soccer.
There were two very excitable doggy’s who wanted to play soccer too!
Only they popped the ball.
So, the dog owner game them a $20, which bought them a new soccer ball AND $5 dollars each in change!!
In true Dad fashion he sent them in to the Service Station alone with $5 each and they purchased contraband.
Bubble Gum!!
(I gotta get less strict π)

(I love using pics with eyes closed. It reminds me of when we couldn’t edit our lives so readily. You collected the film & that’s the photo you got!)

Bike Riding
After lunch, the kids finished off their English & Maths & then Dad took them on a bike ride through the creek.
Mila found a honey flower and they had to take their bikes through the creek to cross.
When they got home, they took their gum and headed straight to the street to ‘hang out’ with the neighbourhood kids.
Liam passed out on the sofa!! π π΄

Wow, What A Day!
Today was so gorgeous.
A really beautiful day.
The kids were motivated and happy.
The sun was shining.
Fingers crossed for a lazy Saturday morning tomorrow with lots of sleep, and no birds!
